After my Xperia X with Sailfish shut down out of empty battery, it now fails to boot.

When I power it on, I get :

  • the warning screen saying the device is unlocked, cannot be trusted (sic) and will boot in 5 seconds
  • the SONY logo (black SONY word on a white screen)
  • after maybe 5 seconds, the white led blinks once
  • then nothing, the SONY logo stays forever

The only way out is to press the power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down.

What can I do to get out of this breakage ?

Keep in mind that inserting the cable while the device is off is considered by the boot loader as part of combos to get into alternative modes.

You probably are getting the logo because it tries to boot into one of the mode for which there's either no screen output (e.g.: fastboot, sony's proprietary flash, etc.) or for which there's no even firmware uploaded (the default installation procedure for Sailfish X doesn't flash the recovery bootmode)

Hence the solution below: turning on with the button will boot into Sailfish and then inserting the cable, it will just give off the default "charging" chime and pop-up.

For people having the same issue after upgrading to 3.3 or enabling encryption: It can be due to the Defender app, see this.

Let it charge for a while. Then unplug charger. Now press the button to shut it down. Now you can start it again. After booting up into Sailfish, plug in charger again.

Are you sure you are using the appropiate power adapter? I had exactly that problem when the battery was empty and i tried to charge using a power adapter with too little output. I think the original adapter supplies 2000 mA output. Unsing one of those solved that problem for me.

That might have been part of the problem. But the power indication said 68% anyway... that said, I charged up to 100% and followed the procedure, and it worked. Thanks you all !
