Noone knows if it will be worth it by now. But Xperia X will run Sailfish OS3 just fine.

Sorry, I don't get it why people keep posting such questions. It should be common knowledge that Sailfish OS is able to run on Xperia X, and that you have to buy a Sailfish X license to be able to use Android apps on it. But only you can decide if it is worth...

One more hint: Xperia X as the most recent phone officially supported by Jolla will of cause be able to run the next Sailfish OS version 3, as will all legacy Jolla devices.

Still would be good to have an official clarification about Xperia X and Sailfish OS going forward. IIRC, based on one of the community meetings on IRC Xperia XA2 hardware adaptation will be based on newer android version and kernel.

The Xperia X hardware adaptation is still based on old Android 6 & Kernel 3.x era hardware adaptation even though a newer Android 8+ & kernel 4.x era hardware adaptation is available through the Sony open device program. So it would be good to know from official sources if hardware adaptation is planed also for Xperia X and when.

Thank you MartinK, that is what i want to know too.

@MartinK: very good comment and a valid question. To be honest, I failed to understand that the original question was about hardware adaptation...

I am happy with XperiaX with SFOS 3.0, but let me summarise PRO/CONS:

PRO: https://sailfishos.org/ I mean, all the pros are connected to the philosophy itself of Sailfish.

CONS:

  • some HW not supported (i.e. radio FM): why 3.0 didn't introduced any update on Device adaptation? was 0.2.1.13 with SFOS 2.x and same now with SFOS 3.x... very disappointed
  • Alien Dalvik not updated: again, ideally Google should be avoided at all but come on guys, many apps simply do not exist in SFOS - a compatibility layer is strictly needed, especially the integration with microG; I hope for some progress in the future, or maybe a different technology adoption, Anbox-like (https://anbox.io/)

About android; it was announced that in the coming releases latest android compatibility will be achieved.

@tortoisedoc: only for the Xperia XA2 models. Xperia X models wouldn't get updated Android version. Was something about the h/w adaption layer.

true but Jolla will make an attempt to bring the latest android compatibility on Xperia X too. However, the current priority is for XA2 devices.

good to hear that.. I am only a bit said I bought xperia x instead of xa2 just before 3.0 release, thinking "X" model would be better supported...

the X model atm has better support than the XA2 one.
