Marvelous, just perfect. This app is available in the app store which does install (currently having some problems with installing apps from open repos.) Installation worked out en I can connect to a webdav server very straight forward and works flawless. Thanks!

Well there is an application called "Cargo-Dock" in the official store that can handle remote webdav sources. Its a tabbed filemanager (maybe comparable to "norton commander" but in a modern way)

If you want to get the remote source as a part of your filesystem you will probably have to go through some command line things.

Edit: Please correct me if im wrong but i dont think that davfs2 (which is needed to mount webdav sources) is available on a standard Sailfish phone. There are however some versions at openrepos.net. This affects only the second part of my answer :)

Thanks for your reply and insights. davfs2 Looks promising and exactly what I need. However I downloaded davfs2 from openrepos to the SD card of my device. But when I Choose install it Sailfish X shows and exclamation mark with the notification "Problem with installing davfs2" and I unfortunately I am not that skilled yet on this platform to understand what is wrong. (I do have the option to "allow untrusted software" enabled.

Cargo Dock might be a good option too, but I have no understanding of command line things (yet)

Raised a ticket with Jolla Support to get more info about my install problem

davfs2 wont work, kernel on X doesnt have the necessary supported module. Perhaps the community build can add it, or Jolla ;)
