It would be nice if the integrated file manager (the one in the memory manager) had the ability to rename files. Yeah I know, Cargodock can do that and that's what I'm using, but still that function should be available even on the default file manager.

yes, the functionality of some of the integrated basic features of SFOS seems very lackluster...

I have found that File Browser is excellent for this and a Swiss Army Knife-worth of other file management tasks. But, as you correctly note, it isn't part of SFOS proper. It probably should be, I think.

To be quite honest, I don't see the point of Jolla wasting any energy on this. First of all, SailfishOS came with this feature built-in from day 1: Everything can be done from the command line. More importantly, 3rd party file managers can do it on the GUI now. If Jolla doubles the functionality yet again, it wouldn't add anything new. They would only be damned for all eternity to keep the code up to date and bug free. I really doubt it's worth it.

While I generally agree with Ossi's sentiment that development resources are scarce and should therefore not be wasted, it is also undeniably true what 247 has stated. Basic functionality, e.g. renaming a file, should not be too hard to implement and is absolutely important. Given that the terminal functionality is already there, the GUI implementation should be very doable even for a small company like Jolla. However, depscribe's approach is the most feasible for now, as we do not have any influence on how Jolla decides to use their development resources. "File Browser" is the absolute best native app for SFOS and I can also very much recommend to 247 to use it.
