According to the blog, it was supposed to be rolled out mid-October to select elites, and then to early-access members "by the end of October". We have a day or two to go...What's going on?! I honestly don't care if Jolla misses the target for release; I rather expect it at this point, but an update of some kind would be GREATLY appreciated. What's the status?

I am amazed why Jolla does not communicate this stuff. They want (or say that they want) to be close to the community, but always keep us in the dark. A simple message about that the first beta test has started would give so many of us a better feeling than posting nothing at all.

But don't expect too much from a small team who want to work further and need concentration for it. They're not nokia google or apple, with same capacity. Don't ask for the butter and money for the butter, they are human too.

But anyone in software development can tell you that managing expectations is almost as important as the product itself. And that has nothing to do with being big or small, ExPLIT's answer is only 1 sentence and it is enough. A small update message might save you hours of explaining why you could not keep your earlier presented schedule or the content of a release. (which all do not work in your favor in creating a positive vibe around your product) I just hate to see Jolla make that mistake again. That's all.
Really looking forward to what's coming.
