Some thoughts Sailfish 3. Excerpts taken from the website (https://jolla.com/sailfish3/):

Sailfish 3 Updates

30% faster performance => that's true

Camera => new API may be, no difference to Sailfish 2

Full Cloud integration => can't find this Access to web folders => how/where to find Automatic photo syncing => missing Notes => can't find anything new

Sailfish for Corporate Mobile Device Management (MDM) => ? Encrypted user data and communications Integrated VPN Redesigned Email and Calendar => not for all users?

VoLTE support => really? Where can I see this?

Full support for landscape UI => I expected this system wide, but can't see this...   Redesigned Top Menu with settings and actions => yes, that looks nice Sticky App Grid => that means?

Summary: I expected some things I really loved to see and ended up disappointed. I planned to switch to Sailfish OS soon for my daily device, bought a Xperia XA2, but now it seems I won't use that device cause there are so much missing but promised features and even the upcoming Software will still have gaps like missing NFC, Radio, Fingerprint and buggy Bluetooth. I was hoping for some improvemens in eMail, Calendar, Contacts, but nothing. No RCS capabilities. LTE connectivity (Jolla C) is bad as before, where other device (Lumia 950, Xperia XA2) connect best.

I can't remember where I read the comment, but a person from Jolla commented that the features will appear during the lifespan of Sailfish 3, and that they never stated that all the features would be available at launch time.

That is kinda sorta sensible, but personally I see this almost as marketing wank. Pardon my harsh wording, but the Sailfish 3 hype was quite big and expectations Jolla gave us were high. I'll patintly wait for the missing features, still.

I like the improved UI with the Top Menu while not sacrificing the swipe-down to close. But besides probably internal optimizations and small changes I could not find any significant improvement in usability of basic apps. Especially an improved calendar is important for me. A week week which gives you more than a dot for each appointment is a must have! Probably SF OS 3 is a big step in the OS development. From a user's point of view it is more like a disappointment! I hope that we will see soon improvements in included native basic apps after the 3.0 platform is ready!

I'm also kinda disappointed to not see the "quick app switching" showcased in some demo like this one: https://youtu.be/HnnngoFtrSQ?t=108 or did I didn't understood how to trigger it (enabled it ?) ?

I must confess that I see nothing here to justify the claim of a major upgrade. If they were to call it 2.3 that would be justified. But I don't see any major new features. No VoLTE, no VoIP, nothing of any great significance. Which is disappointing because it's the only alternative to Googledroid for any but very expensive devices.
