I just wanted to select a category in jolla harbour by using the pulley menu. Of course, something else happened.

However, now thinking about it, I think I would love the idea of selecting the categories through the pulley menu instead of tapping the category.

So, it might be a very stupid idea, but what do you think about it?

I like that. Some might say that pulley menu doesn't work with long lists and that's true at the moment. But it should be developed further to be easily used with longer lists. You could roll down the list as long as you like and choose the action when releasing, swiping wouldn't trigger the action.

@jii To my mind, this will not work. Your finger will reach the bottom of the display before the option of the pulley menu appers, if you want to choose an option which is on the top of a very long pulley menu.

@Anna: Are you talking about harbour (developer site) or Jolla Store?

@jgr I was thinking about jolla store. I think options could be reached by using the pulley menu on top and categories from the bottom. @szobi Categories could be separated into apps, games, tools, system apps, misc, then on the next page, there could be a more detailed choice. I think it's doable.

@szobi Pulley menu could (should) be made to work with longer lists. You could scroll as far away as needed by swiping. Selection happens only when scrolling is stopped AND touch is released. Pulley menu is one of the best features but it could be even better. It should replace tapping in selections

To my mind it is not a good idea, since there are too many categories for a pulley menu. If a pulley menu has too many entries, your finger will reach the bottom of the display even before the topmost option appears.

Another thought: The way the category menu works today also allows to add subcategories (as you can see in the games category), which won't work very nice using a pulley menu.

I don't think this suggestion needs an answer. I also don't think this is an answer.

I disagree about subcategories. The scheme will be just different. Instead of everything in one huge list, you will be sent to the specific category summary. From there, you can specifically choose subcategories.

@Anna Hi Anna, I don't know so exactly, but I thought according to this guideline it is useful to write answers. So, others can vote on the answer they like the most. To my understanding of the guideline it is even useful to write answers to own questions. For example, to let others upvote a possible implementation you had in mind, when you wrote your suggestion.

I think you can also upvote comments. Did you try? I just thought your contribution here is not an answer but a comment stating your opinion. If you disagree with a suggestion, you can always downvote the question. But you might be right with your interpretation of the guidelines. I shall read them once in a while.
