I think there already was a proposal for folders for applications icons, and this feature is on its way, but for me "grouping" feature seems more convinient. Ability of adding a straight line from left side to right with a small note/name on it, and maybe ability to minimize it (hiding icons, but leaving the line). For me it's more convinient, and visualy more destinctive then small folder icon, and also it's more #unlike :D And also for people who don't need it, they can just don't use it. Vote up, if you like it! =)

This sounds good! Hiding apps you don't use much but having them still quickly accessible would be very neat.

It's nice to have a category list that let you launch an app without entering one of them, but reaching an icon after the first row of four will be an hassle (indirect). What about a two-page launcher:

  • the first one is a category list where each entry is represented by the most used apps or the favourite apps.
  • The next page will be a grid with all of the remaining (of the selected category). To reach the complete list you'll have to swipe on a category entry, that gesture will expand the selection to the grid. (the row pressed during the swipe)

With this solution you achieve:

  • direct access to favourite apps of each category without the need to entering the folder
  • grid representation (easier to browse than a single line) for less used applications.

I think it's legal. But definitely frowned upon.
