Because I didn't had a MicroSIM card at the time the jolla phone arrived. I search a bit and found this guide to convert your normal SIM card into a MicroSIM card:

I hope that's helpful for everyone that didn't know that this could be done.
Edit: Do this only transitionally in the time when you wait for a real MicroSIM card.

If your provider offers good customer service, they will cut your card for you or copy the SIM card to a nano SIM. If not, well, time to think about changeing then?

This may work, but be careful not to cut to much, or the Jolla won't recognize the MicroSIM. There is a small mechanical switch in the SIM-Slot, and I had problems with a converted MicroSIM because it first would not trigger that switch. Buying a new MicroSIM has the advantage that you get newer technology (I had to replace a SIM-card in the past because it was to old and MMS was not working).

Amazon'll sell you a clipper device for just a few dollars to do exactly the same thing more reliably and safely.
