well, i did something stupid.

when i saw that 3.0.0.8 was listed as an upgrade in settings -- i was running 2.2.18 -- i pushed the button and set it to upgrade.

and when the upgrade was downloaded and i was -- am -- at the screen with the sailfish logo and what i presume is a progress bar, only there's no progress, only then did i realize that i have call recorder installed, which i remember reading must be uninstalled before the upgrade.

so now, for an hour, it has been sitting here, no progress.

how do i tell it to stop, so i can boit into 2.2.18, uninstall call recorder, and try again? i've tried various button-press combinations to no effect. must i wait for the battery to run down, plug the phone in, and only then be able to boot into 2.2.18 and fix the problem?

Presumably tried holding the Volume Down + the Power key then count to 20 or until device vibrates (think it is 3 times)?

Bingo -- worked this time. Could you convert your comment to an answer? (Though I'm beginning to think that this is a warning not to upgrade . . .<g>)</g>

In fact, I may not have a choice -- it still sits at the starting line, no progress on the progress bar. But it could be that I'll just decide not to upgrade until there's something to upgrade to. I don't see anything in 3.0.0.8 that would make my life any better, so maybe it's best to wait for VoWiFi or something else I can actually use . . .

How long does the upgrade sit at the logo, with no progress on the progress bar, in a proper installation?

The good thing is that we tend to remember the things we do in terror and desperation!

And upgrade worked ssh'ed in from command prompt.
