The top menu of Sailfish OS 3 contains both a choice of ambiences and controls for various settings. As I scrolled the ambiences sideways tonight an idea struck.

If ambiences get more settings in the future then could those settings be visible in the controls somehow?

Changing the ambience would change the settings but it would be visible in the top menu. And the top menu could even be used to temporarily override the setting in the ambience.

What I mean is that each toggle or slider could indicate somehow if it is associated with the current ambience.

This doesn't help making ambience properties directly visible, but the ambience selector (as well as most of the other switches of the top menu) can be long-tapped to get to the related settings. So you may easily check ambience properties by holding your finger on the selected entry.

I don't know if that feature had been mentioned somewhere, so I found it by accident. I appreciate it very much, because it makes some of the top menu's settings shortcuts obsolete, saving space for others.

I'm glad you mentioned this! I was missing the shortcut to the settings as soon as I started up after installing the new version! Thanks a lot!

it is good to be able to go to the ambience settings directly from the selector in the top menu, but this is not a good solution if you just want to quickly jump into a silent mode for example. it would be so easy if there were symbols over the name of the ambience in the picker, that would show a few characteristics of the ambience, for example a "silent" symbol. that's what i understood what @vattuvarg means

btw we saw this already back in 2015, look at the photo here: https://blog.jolla.com/jolla-ambience-photo-campaign/

Sure, this would be nice. However, it would require much more functionality implemented in ambiences.

You may give your ambiences meaningful names in order to have some information in the top menu: Home, Work, Night, ...
