Suggested icons for gestures

The meaning of this post is to offer a place to check reserved gestures for posts with feature-requests or ideas concerning usage of gestures, and to work as a "central linking place" for all these questions. Answers here represents all reserved gestures in Sailfish OS.

  • Feel free to link answers of this wiki to your own questions.
  • Feel free to add your own question as a link to any of the answers here. You can edit your link directly to the answer, leaving comments for any discussion.

Note: Image presents some of the possible gestures. Icons for double tap, swipe+peek and multi-finger gestures are not presented by Jolla (when presented, image might need an update). All other icons are in use e.g. at jolla.com/guide

Great posting, really helpful for anyone wanting to know all about the gestures in use in Jolla. One tiny suggestion; would be nice if in the link-lists the question title was shown as the link-text and not the full URL. This way it would be much easier to see which question that is.

@simo I'm happy to leave the editing to someone who is hanging around in this forum with desktop browser ;)

@jgr great work!

@simo: Thanks for the flowers. By the way: You did not mention the pinch open/close (zoom action). It works for example in Sailfish browser (not on Jolla2gether) and Sailfish e-mail (when html formatted).

Until 1.1.7.28: Favourite ambiences screen (visible only if at least one ambience is marked as favourite)

  • swipe-left/right --> back to previous screen
  • tap --> change ambience

Since 1.1.9.28: Favorite ambiences are moved to lock menu, accessible via swipe-from-top

Note: Favourite ambiences screen is accessed both via lock-screen and via home-screen, with both swipe-left and swipe-right gestures. In together, there are already suggestions to change some of these gestures to other use. In these suggestions people consider that the favourite ambiences screen doesn't need to be accessible in so many ways.

Pulley menus (reserved gestures concerning using pulley menus in general)

General info:

  • Pulley menu is usually located above the top page, but can also be located below the bottom page
  • Pulley menus can be used both within Sailfish OS user interface and within apps
  • When a pulley menu is accessible, top or bottom of the screen has a highlighted color stripe
  • "Drop menu", accessed with a long hold on an item (on some items) is not handled in this answer, but gestures mentioned below are about the same when one is opened.

until 1.1.7.28: Reserved gestures (when either top- or bottom- pulley menu is opened):

  • Swipe-from-top --> sleep screen
  • tap on the menu item --> select item
  • hold/pull over the menu --> browse items (end the gesture to select)
  • all other gestures anywhere else --> close the menu

since 1.1.9.28: Reserved gestures (when either top- or bottom- pulley menu is opened):

  • Swipe-from-top --> lock menu / close app (option via Settings>System>Gestures)
  • Swipe-from-bottom --> Launcher
  • Swipe-from-right --> Home
  • Swipe-from-left --> Home / Events (option via Settings>System>Gestures)
  • tap on the menu item --> select item
  • hold/pull over the menu --> browse items (end the gesture to select)
  • all other gestures anywhere else --> close the menu

Since 1.1.9.28: System wide reserved gestures

  • Swipe-from-bottom/top/left/right (move on different UI views)
  • Three-finger-pull up/down (Adjust media volume. Not implemented on Jolla Phone)

Note: When developing native Sailfish OS apps, these gestures can't be changed to perform any other actions. Android apps using swipe-from-outside-the-screen gestures works when you hold one finger on the screen while performing the swipe (hold+swipe)
