I am sure many are thrilled about the news of being able to have a full Linux distro on a mobile phone AND connect it to a display, hook up peripherals and blast away, like Samsungs Linux on DeX, partnered with Canonical. Or is it possible to use SFOS like that already? Any info welcome.

The problem is that no phone running SFOS has HW to output to a monitor. Other than that with systemd you can have a container running a distro. Some have done it already i think.

Thanks. Well, it was an idea after all, but I was hopeful.. Perhaps in the future Jolla can pull this off with some manufacturer, would be cool imho. (Or to try this, I just need to get a Samsung tablet...

https://blog.jolla.com/new-sailfish-x-support-xperia-xa2-variants-free-trial/ mentions that support for CosmoCommunicator is planned.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cosmo-communicator#/ mentions support for HDMI out.

So, if the CosmoCommunicator project delivers and if Jolla delivers, it will be possible.

@jaacoppi; brilliant reply, thanks! That Cosmo seems promising, and more like what I was thinking of. I shall follow their development for sure.

The GeminiPDA has an USB adapter (USB3 <-> HDMI) as this Picture (with debian on the PDA) shows: https://geminiplanet.com/how-to-install-debian-linux-on-the-gemini/

The GeminiPDA has no official SailfishOS (at the moment a V3.0.0.8 community version exists), but it seems, that Jolla will support the device. So the correct answer should be 'non from Jolla official supported device has support for an external monitor'.

I'm not shure that none off the official supported devices are able to use USB <-> HDMI on the HW. But Jollas SailfishOS can't do that at the moment ...
