I wonder whether anyone could please confirm that full two-way synchronization between salifish contacts and a large contact database (4000+ records) on memotoo works. I know it "should" work, but I am not keen to just try because my large database will be hard to restore if something goes wrong.

(Or maybe someone can tell me trick for that: how would I back up the phone contacts properly, so that I can restore them in case of a messed up sync?)

You can at least download a backup from memotoo itself, which in case of disaster can restore again. I can't comment on the syncing large databases, but with my small one (few dozens) things work fine.

Thanks, this is helpful. Can I please just ask you to confirm: in your case it works as a full two-way sync, that is changes on the phone make it to memotoo, and changes in memotoo make it to the phone?

And the types of entries (e.g. "Personal . Mobile . Phone") are well preserved?

I'm using it and yes it preserves the categories. Therefore you may find duplicate entries. You can easily get rid of them with the tools in memotoo.
