When SF3 was released as community edition for XA2 it was announced that the payed version with support for Android apps et.al. would be available 'later this year', i.e. December 2018. As I'd assume that there won't be much activity at Jolla between Christmas and New Year's Eve there are only a few days left to keep that promise. I wonder if we get that nice present for Christmas or if we need to keep on carrying a Android backup until next year.

You will have to wait like the rest of us. The sailor that spills the beans walks the plank...

They even dared to be more precise and said "early December". It's a shame that many companies in general don't learn to communicate their worst instead of their best assumption as publication date.

Only the next updat was announced for early December. But the history told us that there is always a delay. But I guess Jolla will roll out the next update this week and the next (hopefully including Android support) during January

@Dreej I use my Jolla 1 as daily device and need the exchange support. On https://shop.jolla.com/ you can read, that "all commercial components for Sony Xperia™ XA2, XA2 Plus, and XA2 Ultra will be available by the end of 2018". This have to include exchange and android support - I hope so that I can use my XA2 as primary device

Please see https://blog.jolla.com/new-sailfish-x-support-xperia-xa2-variants-free-trial/ (updated today):

"Sailfish OS 3.0.1 and Sailifsh X Schedule Update

This is a schedule update for the next Sailfish OS release, 3.0.1 “Sipoonkorpi”. We have continued working on this release as the year moves forward and the Sailfish OS 3.0.1 will be released in early January. The commercial release of Sailfish X for XA2, including the Android apps support, will follow soon after the 3.0.1 release is fully released and rolled out."

=> So SFOS 3.0.1 early January, which means Android support for XA2 will be after.

At least they got something not fully, but quite unlike a roadmap done.

This is very disappointing. Why they communicate any dates at all if they can meet the expectation they had set themselves

@vatman If you are disappointed for a 4-week delay (as "early January" ends January 29 for Jolla) you should not have a job involving developing anything new.

I would have no problem if they have stated that they will do it in the near future. Actually my frustration is that they have said they will release it for Q3 for XA2 as they would deliver finished product in this time frame. Also they waited until very last moment to post/update us that they will not manage to deliver it in "early December" as they were surprised to find out this today. I have not problem with the delays as much as the way they are communicated.

it give me time to find a cheap new XA2 (plus) to install SFOS on it, and replace my Xperia Xcompact.

Fortune cookie from my last Chinese dinner told me ...

However as a developer I would say ...

"It's ready when it's ready."

Happy waiting for Santa :-)

But will there perhaps be a small christmas present as sailfish os 3.0.0.11 was created on 03 Dec 2018 but so far we are stuck with 3.0.0.8. Don't know what this update would change, but perhaps a few drivers would be updated what would already feed a little bit our hunger for updates :P
