I received an sms from a friend whose number was not in my contacts, but I had his facebook contact so I choose "merge" from the pulley menu. It was correctly added to my friend's contact entry, but as "home number", so I tried to edit it and change it to "mobile".
I've been able to add the number as mobile, but the home one was not deleted and I can't find a way to do that. Is this a bug?

No globe. I tried to go online with facebook chat, since the number was added to a facebook entry, and now I could get to delete button by long-pressing on the number I wanted to erase (which didn't appear at all before). Don't know if something strange happened, or it was just me being dumb :P

Long press the number you want to delete to make a submenu appear, from which you can then delete the number.
I don't know why, but long-pressing on the number I wanted to delete didn't get me to the submenu to delete it in the situation described in the question. After going online with facebook chat, it suddenly became possible. I leave the question and the answer here just so that if anybody with a similar issue can find some help.
I think there was some update to the People application and it was fixed - had the same issue and it suddenly became available.
Also note that you cannot remove the number if you added it just now (you have to accept changes, edit contact and then go back to edit mode and remove it).
