Hey Hey,

I installed Android-Store (Aptoide) on my XA2 and got shown two updates.

  • Contacts 1.7.31 (it says installed is 1.7.21) - no publisher, no description
  • Camera 2.0.002 AMERICANMEGATRENDS-2.0.7.8268-70 (installed 2.0.002) - no publisher, description link it to the Remix OS project.

On my Jolla 1 they are not there. Someone knows about the use of it?

The apps come pre-installed with Android support (i.e., not with installing the Store). Not sure how and if I should remove these apps.

Those default AOSP apps are present because they are built as part of AOSP and they haven't been explicitly removed yet. They're not needed for anything except testing, and they're not breaking anything by being there. They'll probably be removed from the image at some point.

Thanks for the answer! I found something interessting for me with that Contacts App. I updated the app and opened. There you have all the same contacts than on your native app.

If you delete contacts there (they stay in your native app), all Android apps can only access to the contacts you didn't delete. E.g. I allowed WhatsApp after that "sort-out" to access my contacts. With that I can choose which contacts goes to the app and NOT all my contacts on the phone.

Bet there are several ways to do, but that is kind of very easy. :)

So far the contact syncing has got a far as mirroring your Sailfish contacts into Android, but nothing the other way. The contacts you remove in Alien won't be deleted from Sailfish yet, but won't reappear until you trigger a sync from the Sailfish side by modifying the contact, or I think it'll resync when alien is restarted.

@andy-branson "I think it'll resync when alien is restarted" ... Nope. There are in-app-settings to avoid automatic sync. "They're not needed for anything except testing" ... Nope. It is used (e.g.) by WhatsApp to handle the contacts. Imo, same for the camera app.

There's a 'contacts provider' inside Android that Whatsapp etc use. The 'Contacts' app itself is just a UI tp show that data. Whatsapp will launch that when you try to 'add to contacts' but that won't ever be of use in Sailfish. There is an initial sync of the Sailfish/Android contacts daemon that verifies the database when it starts up, but I'm not sure how that handles contacts deleted on the Android side.

Oh yes, that makes sence. Thank you. But still wonder when "Whatsapp will launch that when you try to 'add to contacts' " may it not produce a critical failure, if it's not there anymore? Sure it's just for testing?

I dared to update these contacts app. It creates an icon and when I opened it, the answer was there.

Both apps are needed, cause aliendalvik can't access to the native contacts and camera app.

The camera app is already on newest version, that's why you can't update. Just wonder why it still shows to be ready for update, but well. :)

Imo, updating them (if possible) is fine, but not necessary. Delete them (if possible), I wouldn't recommand.

I have the Contacts app installed - removed the Camera, since it failed to update. No issues I can access camera on other Android apps without the separate Camera app.

Did you really delete the Camera-App or just took it out from the updates in aptoide?

Deleted from the App grid, also removed the Contacts App.
