If you see what eg. Steph Gosling did for the porting of Sailfish OS to other devices, why doesn't Jolla hire this guy?

He could help embrace the full program of Sony's Open Devices. At the moment it is still a missed opportunity, as they would be able to embrace so many more users/devices. The Sony Open Device program is not limiting them either:

2018-10-11: Update of AOSP Oreo binaries (Android 8.1 – Kernel 4.4) for:

  • Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia XA2 Plus (Nile)
  • Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact (Yoshino)
  • Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs and Xperia X Performance (Tone)
  • Xperia X and Xperia X Compact (Loire)

I do believe there would first need to be an open position.

yup and mindset and salary expectations should match.

Everything comes at a price and mostly it is balancing gain and cost what matters.

Perhaps the open community can support him. Meaning run a kickstarter for example $50 to help pay him to bring sailfish os to the oneplus6t.

From the linked page: "Steph Gosling is a SRE and scalability consultant based in London, UK." Yeah, he's probably not doing too badly on that gig...
