General Network Bugginess

Sorry if not crystal clear - I guess I don't even know exactly what to ask. Searching, I've found other issues, like:

https://together.jolla.com/question/160037/solved-j1-sailfish-update-waiting-for-connection/ https://together.jolla.com/question/197638/connectivity-problem-xa2-h4113-sailfish-30111/ https://together.jolla.com/question/190155/anybody-elses-updates-get-interrupted-due-to-sloooow-connection/ https://together.jolla.com/question/190185/upgrade-to-nurmonjoki-fails-2014-edition-jolla-phone/

which seem to point to the same kind of thing in varying situations. So I personally have a common experience something like this: I am using the phone, then I stop using it, and power off the screen, then at some point, I turn the screen back on to use it again, and the network is disconnected. There are no signs on the phone of a disconnection, (all of the status icons show normal, connected state), but nothing will connect, network-wise. I can just keep trying to reload web pages, or close and reopen browser, etc., for 5 - 10 minutes, and eventually it reconnects and works fine, or I can restart, and it's ok. I've learned to make a habit of turning on airplane mode every time I turn off the screen, and it's usually ok after turning it back on and turning off airplane mode.

Another issue is with system updates. Unless I have the phone connected to a network, with the screen kept on, and don't use it for anything else until it's done, the connection will freeze at some point in the download, and never finish. So I guess my question(s) would be:

  • How to prevent deep sleep, (as a possible cause/troubleshoot)? I have seen a few questions from people complaining about the phone not going into deep sleep, but no about how to prevent it
  • What's the deal? I'm not saying that with any attitude - just objective wondering. What is actually going on, or, how can I find out what's going on, and have hope to do something about it?

If it's just another one of those, we-are-aware-of-the-problem-and-are-working-towards-a-solution -type things, that's fine. I don't mind enduring through stuff to support something good. I just wonder if there is actually something better I could do on my end...

  1. To prevent deep sleep install keepalive-tool (I think with pkcon install libkeepalive-glib-tools), run keepalive-tool sleep infinity in terminal and do not close it.
  2. My disconnection problems on Xperia X were solved by reflashing android, using sim voice and data for some time and flashing back. It's a known problem and I suppose this solution is recommended by Jolla.
