Overview over available native maintanted messengerclients available?
is there anywhere a list? Native apps mostly works better than running the Androidversion.
- Signal therewas long long time ago Sailsecure now a github projectnamed whisperfish is available but is there any other mainatend alternative from open-repos?
- Telegram the android app works quite well, but there is as well i huge variaty of native apps on openrepos but quite hard to know which is maintaned and will be maintanted further on
- Threema works mostly okay, but as closed source there is no chance for a native client
which messenger you use under sailfish? native or android?
It's mostly a matter of clients that family/friends use. I use mostly Viber, installed from Yalp Store, even if I tried many times to suggest my family to use something more open and secure, like a native XMPP self hosted solution. No luck though. Whatsapp goes for the most, with a few other on Telegram.

XMPP would be okay but the message app doesn't support encryption or they add this?

Telegram have a native client that work just 'ok' - Depecher - but you could use a web version of Telegram in a native browser, wich is almost fully operative
Rafael Flores ( 2019-02-03 14:29:08 +0300 )editHave you heard of Briar? Looks like it is only Android at the moment, but not having a server instance between two endpoints reduces server-side inspection issues, I guess.
Lutwolf ( 2019-02-03 14:30:17 +0300 )editIm am working on getting family to use XMPP, the easiest way to get my friends and family to change is to give them easy instructions and tutorial so they just have to follow and not think to hard. hahaha I am still trying to figure out how to import my ssl certificates for encryption .
