"Positive News"-time:

I am sure everyone has a bunch of native apps which simply work brilliantly on Sailfish OS and bring out the best of it for whatever reason. Let's share those and praise its devs. Maybe you'll discover a beautiful app you haven't heard of yet, making the daily use of SFOS a greater joy.

@pawel I agree. And wiki style answers for poll like questions for this, IMO.

What others already mentioned: Wunderfitz, Pure Maps, Tidings, Voyager, Fahrplan

What was not mentioned yet:

  • 7minex (although I had to patch it): Small, daily workout routine
  • WiFiKilL3r (although I had to patch it): Kills your Wifi on leaving it (energy and privacy saving)
  • Hosts Adblock (although I had to patch it): No more Ads and Trackers
  • Tint Overlay: To get a redshift-like behavior
  • SailHN: Hackernews reader
  • SailTuner: Tuning your instruments. Awesome!

@martin.st Thanks for the WiFiKilL3r. Great discovery!

@Spark: Be sure to check into github, if you experience the problem of "immediate disconnect". Unfortunately, the project seems to be unmaintained. But I posted a solution in the github-ticket.

Foil Pics - Not everyone has to see all pictures
File Browser - Easy to browse through the whole file system
Machines vs Machines - Addicting tower defence game
SolitaireGames - Never made it through "Klondike draw 1" as you've only one try through the set. Still addicting.
SailTuner - Nice to measure some frequency and to tune musical instruments
OBDFish - Great OBD tool. I still miss some PIDs for my car
Mashka - You can clean unneeded app folders without browsing through the file system
CodeReader - self explaining
Storeman - nice and up to date
Lighthouse - can show device utilization on the home screen
AIDA64 - more advanced
Defender - for blocking ads
Situations - if you need to control your phone settings by ambient conditions
Messwerk - Geat for measuring using the internal sensors. I miss audio measuring.
SpritRadar - Nice but i miss some gas stations in my area. Only one is registered.
Working Hours Tracker - Does what I want it to do ;)

Thanks for this thread. I'm testing gPodder, Pure Maps and Depecher right now.

@Hensch - does OBDFish work for you on 3.0.1.11 please? For me not :(

tom.i ( 2019-02-24 22:35:16 +0300 )edit

Tested it this morning and yes, it works on my Aqua Fish with cheap ELM Device.

Hensch ( 2019-02-25 09:18:38 +0300 )edit

Which version of SFOS do you have? Same as me?

tom.i ( 2019-02-25 09:40:56 +0300 )edit

Yes, its the Jolla C version of 3.0.1.11. What's the problem on your side? Did you try it before with an older SFOS version?

Hensch ( 2019-02-25 09:58:17 +0300 )edit

I don't understand, I click on that icon, it is showing roller that app is starting and then whole app disappears / crashes. Yes, I used to use it few times on some olde 2.X.X.X SFOS, I can't remeber, I just tried OBDFish few times. I deleted obdfish directory in /home/nemo/.config/harbour-obdfish just for sure.. - didn't help So I deleted whole app and I'll try to reinstall it.

Working Hours Tracker - I'd find hard to live without, as I work very irregular hours

Rena - The best GPS logger for my training rounds

NettiRadio - Something to listen when I'm running

JollaOpas - To not to miss the train!

+1 to gPodder - my favourite app!!! Hoping it will be maintained again. +1 to CodeReader

+1 to SGAuth as a Google Auth tool, another android app made obsolete for me.

Wasn't aware of sgauth. Nice one. Sad that the qrcode function doesn't work.

And sadder that it seems abandoned. Would be cool if someone added the missing functionality.

SailOTP does the same job as SGAuth and the dev is active. So yeah. Scratch the above comment.

True that SailOTP does the same as SGAuth, I just prefer the interface of the latter.

Am i wrong or does it require a smart band/watch? I thougt it would use the internal sensors too.

Hensch ( 2019-02-21 11:03:05 +0300 )edit

You can use internal GPS for position, a heartrate monitor (didn't test it myself) or e.g. heartrate from Amazfit BIP via amazfish.

Daniel.T ( 2019-02-23 13:08:29 +0300 )edit

The problem is solved. Don't know why but I could not start an activity and thought an external device is required for it to work. But now I can start it.

  • SailOTP – for time-based one-time passwords
  • AllRadio – listening to radio stations
  • Fuoten – Nextcloud news reader
  • Books – epub reader
  • ownKeepas – password manager
  • Cargo dock – file manager
  • Pure Maps – maps app
  • podQast – podcast app
  • SaiSync owncloud – Nextcloud syncing
  • Notizen.md – notes app supporting markdown

Actually, I am using XA2 as daily driver without Android support. For now I lack secret messages in Telegram, lack ticket purchasing in public transport and the browser issue… under the bottom line it is nevertheless a satisfying setup. Kudos to all native app devs!
