In BB10 when i start the phone app, on the top are my favorites from the contact list as picture. Down below is my calling list. I miss this feature in SFOS, it makes the calls easyer and faster without additional swipes and touches.

This is available in the People app. No quick call possibility though.

  • Open contact info of the first on your list.

  • Press the star.

  • Return to contacts list.

  • Evaluate.

From phone app, swipe down to select ''call contact'' . This will bring ''people'' but with in the phone app. Any contact selection there is a direct dial.

There is a possibility to put a "call this number"-icon (the icon being the photo of the person) directly on the app grid. I mention this only for the sake of completeness, as it requires manual editing of *.sh- and *.desktop-files. I found it useful a while ago for my 3 most used phone numbers, but of course it doesn't automatically adapt to "most recently used" etc.

But in contact list favorites only opens the vcard with option buttons to call or text, thats inconveniant. I always have the phone app open on homescreen, when i select an entry of this list it calls directly. With favorites above there with direct call would be nice.

I think it's a different approach with arguably a little bit more effort (one exra tap to make a phone call) but more features (you can call, message, find address, call a different number, etc. from the contact card). Personally, I prefer this than the so-called favourites in a phone application, where you normally have to do the extra tap anyway to pick which number of your favourite contact to call.
