I'm really excited to be coming back to Sailfish.

I see that SailfishX on the Gemini doesn't have Android Support yet. Is it going to happen? Is there a timeline?

While it was just Whatsapp, it was fun using the various native implementations that were playing cat and mouse to reverse engineer each update. But now facebook messenger, telegram, skype, and google hangouts are all so prominent with different parts of the world biasing towards one, or another, it's not sustainable for keeping in touch with the important people in my life.

On the flip side, I have several projects planned for creating native sailfish apps.

Well i don"t use Whatsapp - for me the 2 native Telegram Apps are enough to communicate with my family, friends and community - but this question is indeed interesting...

Maybe Jolla can inform us, what is planning and what will be the way?

Will Android Support come later or there will be no Android Support at all ?

Here it was clear said, that Android Support will find the way to Gemini

Thank god you remembered that blog post; Jolla can't back track now!

Rather than hold them to it. I'd rather find out what their intentions are now, then I can plan accordingly. This is a company I'd really like to succeed and stick around.

Does Jolla also target the Cosmo Communicator?

From https://jolla.com/sailfishx/ (Currently point 13)

The Android App Support of Xperia X is based on version 4.4.4 now. Will you update the Android App Support of Xperia X devices? The Android App Support in Sailfish OS upgrade from Android 4.4.4 apps to Android 8.1 apps is a major architectural rework, and depends on a whole new hardware adaptation software (aka baseport) based on Android 8. The Sailfish OS hardware adaptation for Xperia X devices is based on Android 6 baseport, which as such is incompatible with the our new Android App Support.

With Jolla’s very limited resources, we have the chance to work on either one at a time, and we chose to develop and maturize the new Android 8.1 app support in Xperia XA2 product range. As stated earlier we will look into whether supporting other Sailfish devices (like Xperia X) is feasible only after we’ve got the support in XA2 in good enough maturity level and well stabilized. Also, please note that as communicated we will continue providing Sailfish OS updates for Xperia X, and the above concerns only the Android App Support functionality.

It sounds like it might be a while. But I'd love to be wrong. I really would be happy with Android 4.4.4 in the mean time. If anyone knows better, please do jump in :)
