USB-C Sound output no volume control [XA2]

When plugging in my USB-C dongle to the XA2 USB-C connection it auto switched audio to that dongle as it has a sound output. Pressing the volume buttons shows the volume bar going up and down but with no effect to the volume coming from the output.
