SMS message threads are mixed

I have had issues for some time where messages from services, like UPS delivery notifications or my bike repair shop notifications, that don't use phone number but textual sender information are mixed into and replaces threads for my contacts. The messages jump around and sometimes they are displayed under correct thread and sometimes they are mixed up.
Instead of seeing the contact's name for the thread I see the service name, but with some, not all messages, from the affected contact included in that thread. So some messages for the contact are associated with this mixed thread, while other messages are still under the thread for the contact. Both sent and received messages are affected and I cannot find a real pattern.
It has happened since I started to experience lost contacts due to failed sync(which I still do, but much more seldom). Normally it has sorted itself out within a couple of good syncs, but now I have had this issue for over a day without being resolved.
Unfortunately I have no answer to help you, but this reminds me of an old bug from the Meego times. It was a nightmare. It never really got fixed, but sometimes it would help to reset the tracker, by typing in a terminal tracker-control -r . THIS WOULD ERASE ALL SMS and contacts in the process. No idea if this would help on Sailfish, btw.
