Sending picture from Message app [duplicate]

Hello,

Huge fan of SfOS here, but amongst all the functionalities I would like to see on sailfish, one is really bothering me. I would like to be able to select a picture from the message app to send it to someone via mms.

For me, it doesn't make sense to only have this option in the gallery app. I mean, yeah we need it in the gallery app but not only there. Even from an UX perspective we can attach image when writing an email, but not when writing an sms, and that feels weird to me.

Is there a way to add that option in the messages app?

Thanks!

NB: I didn't find any question on TJC related to that, but I'm sorry if it's a duplicate.

I agree, but where would you add it in the UI? The only thing I could think of would be a pulley menu at the bottom of the message list, but that would look bad. Not a lot of people send pictures via MMS anymore, and support for sending pictures with other message protocols is either not implemented or not hooked up, so that's probably why the Messages app has never received a way to select and send pictures from within the app.

It's technically possible to create a patch with a bottom pulley menu or a floating menu button that links up to the MMS picture selection page, by the way.

@nthn I would add it at the same place we have this option when writing an email (for UI/UX consistency), when creating a new message, with the three little dots. Those three dots could be near the "Send button" at the bottom of the app. Or with the pulley menu as you said.

I'd be happy with a patch, but I don't have the skill (yet) to do that. And also, I think the stock apps need more love so that new users don't feel the way that the OS is "unfinished" (since they won't find some basic options we have for years on others systems), but it's just my opinion :)

I too have found this ability missing. I use MMS on a weekly basis and many times I have a conversation where I want to attach an image to. To switch to gallery for this is not the ideal way.

Perhaps replace the clock in the bottom left? I don't see the need for clock in an application where I can peek.

Maybe just the way aebruno did it in the app whisperfish (unfortunately discontinued signal client): long press on the send button opens a menu to choose the file, which is the same as in creating e-mail after pressing the three dots and “add attachment”
