I know there will be no big update for the tablet anymore because of... reasons :D
But just theoretically... would it be technically possible to update the Jolla Tablet to the new LXC based AlienDalvik system of the XA2? If 8 is not possible, perhaps 7 or 6? Would it be doable by the community?

Sadly it will not be possible to update the Android support for the Jolla Tablet beyond Android 4.4 unless Jolla redo the hardware adaption which is pretty much unlikely at this point.
This is because it's device adaption is based upon Android 4.4 drivers.
You could try to thinker with Anbox for Mer but it would require a lot of debugging.
