Which directory do I place ringtones and notification sounds in? [duplicate]

I want to add a few more notification sounds then are available out of the box (and before someone suggests it, no: adding them as 'music' is not acceptable. I don't want my music library cluttered with ringtones).

On android they have their own folder. I tried adding two .wav files to /usr/share/sounds/*/ (sorry forgot the name of the folder, something with jolla in the name though. It's the same directory as all the other sounds are in) but it does not work.

Apparently that will be overwritten by OS updates though. Jolla need to make basic things like this easier... Writing/editing index files for every song is not acceptable..

I mean, technically I guess? The linked thread is 2 years old though and the accepted solution doesn't work :/ Should I delete this issue and comment there instead then?

who says the solution doesn't work?, when I answered that question, I tested on my Jolla1 and it worked, so I'm not sure why you are suggesting it doesn't work - did you try it?, did you edit the sounds.index file?

Yeah. I have my files in both /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones and /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones/stereo, but it just doesn't work. They do not show up. I've rebooted the device even, still nothing.

They go in the ''stereo'' folder but you need to define them in the ''stereo.index'' file as well inorder to have them to show up in the sound/ringtone chooser page. Edit it by adding all the lines required to index them as either ringtone or else.take exemple from any of the baseline that are configured stock.the sound files dont need to be ''.ogg''. They just need to be precisely indexed.

oh boy jolla...

another thing you think would be easily possible... I just wanted to add some new tones - but more then copying them into some folder isn't a solution that is acceptable. Such a simple thing should be possible out of the box.

So: plz do some magic there in future versions.
