Hi,

I have a dummy question and I haven't found clear answers on this forum.

How can I perform a clean reinstall of SFOS on Xperia X ? I have already SFOS 3 installed and I would like to reinstall it from scratch. The SFOS installation notes are mentioning that Sony Android stock shall be installed as default OS.

But is there a way to reinstall SFOS on top of SFOS directly, avoiding restoring Sony Android stock rom in between ?

FYI, I don't need to backup any data on present of the mobile phone.

Thanks !

Reflashing is the way to do it. No need to go back to Android.

  1. Download the latest Sailfish OS from https://shop.jolla.com/downloads/ - sign in with your Jolla account that holds the license. This is chapter 3 of our instructions at https://jolla.com/sailfishxinstall/ .
  2. Next, do chapter 5, i.e. download the "vendor binary blob".
  3. Proceed to chapter 6 and flash Sailfish OS to your device.

Thanks, it worked perfectly ! I was afraid to do so and to brick the mobile phone.

No need to go back to Android.

Though temporarily re-installing and booting Android will force Android to download some updates to the cell modem, which might help around some of the cell connection problems on Xperia X.

Again, not needed, just suggested to fix weird problems on Xperia X.

Beware of not upgrading to Android 9 Pie if you do this on your Xperia XA2.

If you started originally on Sailfish 3, the 'reset phone' option in settings will do it. If not, just use your original flashing files you got from Jolla. The flash script uses fastboot to overwrite partitions, so it would all be clean.

Hi,

I think the reset device would be suitable for this. You can find it at the bottom in the settings app.

Yes, but if you started originally from sf2, and later updated to 3, reset would take you back to 2.
