The core apps mail and calendar have many flaws, as discussed here for years, making it very challenging to use a Sailfish OS powered device as daily driver.

Regarding the mail app (see also enhancements-of-the-email-client):

  • imap folders/subfolders are not synced (see also jolla-mail-imap-subfolders)
  • no clipboard functionality (workaround exists by opening the answering or forwarding dialogue)
  • threaded view unsuitable for longer conversations: preceding messages are sometimes represented by indentations, sometimes by > characters - Why? - both solutions are hard to follow, colors would be a better solution
  • no alternative identities/aliases for an account (see also email-app-how-to-sendreceive-emails-with-alias-address)
  • no mail filters (only nice to have)

Concerning the calendar app:

The apps in the jolla store are not updated since 2017 and seem to be closed source (?). The respective threads on together.jolla were mostly opened years ago but there seem to be no updates on these topics in the last years.

What is the status and the perspective concerning the development of these applications?

Are there any solutions for these Problems that i missed, workarounds or alternatives (openrepos apps, unofficial patches or scripts) for these functionalities ?

I know that all these functionalities are provided by android apps like k9mail and calendar from simple mobile tools, but using android apps for these core functionality is not really feasable.

Off-topic: Is there a way to rescale/resize images uploaded to together.jolla?

"exchange does not sync multiple calendars"

Am I misunderstanding something? Because, I got several calendars under one office365 account (work calendar and the schedules of a couple of sports teams) and they all sync just fine.

All my calendars are standalone though, are we talking about the subscription calendars that are updated automatically by a third party?

The sports team calendars are originally subscription ones, that I initially subscribe to my desktop calendar app and then export to .ics on the desktop, and then add that .ics as a standalone one (under my o365 account) to my desktop calendar app that syncs through Exchange to my Sailfish phone.

What is your aim? do you think that if you pack 2 topics in one thread you get a good feedback?
Maybe "yes you'Re right" or "thank you for your positive feedback" (hum!....).
Please use one thread for one topic. So that it won't be mixed, discussion stay consistent for one point of the thread...

@teemu Additional calendars in one exchange account are not synced only the first one, at least in my mailbox.org account.

@cemoi71 What do you mean by 'two topics'? As stated above I'm looking for workarounds or alternatives, I did not find any on together.jolla or openrepos but maybe i missed some, since I'm relatively new to Sailfish OS and the community. Maybe there are some manual tweaks, experimental development branches, unoffical apps or patches that I don't know. Maybe I was looking at the wrong place and you can point me in the right direction.

I use the answer function, because I want to insert some pictures!

This is a long and sad story, I fully agree. The email app got some updates the last year, but I really have no clue, how they prioritize the needed features. It has nothing to do with complexity.

For example: To make the email app consist in design, I need to modify a few system files after each update, so the functions are in place, but no opportunity for the users to choose. After modifying about 5 lines my html and text emails are readable and just looks like a native sailfish app (this is a html email):

Why does jolla not provide the full range of options, the system has already? Even in a separate "tweak" app, if they want to keep things simple?
