Sailfish Weather - app gets data and works mostly

Tracked by Jolla (Rejected)

EDIT - Since updating to the latest SFOS last night (for which I got a black/blank screen and had to reset my JP1301) I now have NO weather icon for my area. As a result, the forced weather icon on the lockscreen is also not present, which causes the temperature text to get shoved up underneath the date, which of course looks cr*p.

Also, in the main weather app page, I now have a large blank space where there used to be "Sunny" icon. As we discovered last time, the problem is with the weather station in Valencia. Before this new SFOS update (3.3.0) I occasionally got the right weather icon, but more often than not, it just showed "sunny" all the time and now, nothing, no icon at all - but I do quite like the new icons and the little splash of colour they provide. Perhaps I will nudge Foreca again as I have absolutely NO IDEA how to get in touch with the Weather Station in Valencia.

I contacted Foreca for some information regarding weather description and locations, but Foreca staff could not help. I was informed that Foreca no longer provides support to Jolla for their weather application.

Will I ever see a different weather icon for my current location?, it is always 'cloud-day-0' - this means, according to the application, that the sun shines day and night here and never, ever rains, despite a historical storm here in recent months. Also the weather description is almost never available, yet locations just a few miles in any direction are all complete and quite accurate.

Jolla, will you be renewing your subscription with Foreca?, can you fix the lack of description and correct weather icon?

I am pretty sure my Weather app is updating. At least the five day forecast.

yep, app works fine and updates, all icons as they should be :)

Yes guys, I'm not saying the app does not work or does not update, but the API is out of date and for me, this means an inaccurate or non-existent forecast for my area. I've left a lot of detail out of my main question, people don;t want to read long paragraphs of waffle, but to say the least, the app like much of the OS is, well, rather neglected.

So, Jolla is paying Foreca to use their API, but they are not maintaining the Weather App? Well... Probably should move to another weather provider, for example FMI:

@raketti, they didn't clarify and I won't pry, but I get the impression, rightly or wrongly, that it is a yearly subscription or similar and Jolla cannot afford/doesn't want to afford the cost - not a priority, which is understandable to a degree.

The Weather app of Sailfish OS keeps working and weather information keeps coming from Foreca, as before. The screenshots below were taken today from my Xperia XA2 running the upcoming OS update 3.1.0.

If you fail in getting weather updates regarding your home city, please try some other cities. If the problem persists, re-installing Weather app might help. If not, consider collecting journal logs and attaching them here.

Thanks for your response @jovirkku

Please try Xabia (Javea) on your device, the main page does not show a weather description, never has done but in the WeatherPage it does, sometimes, but always, always shows sun, day and night. I could have weather from Denia, a few miles north of me, but Denia is the otherside of a mountain and the weather can be quite different in both places despite only being a few miles apart.

Because I like editing the weather app and making it do other stuff, I sometimes get things totally wrong and have to install the app again, with this in mind, I still have the incorrect weather/preciptation/day/night/no description problem, sad really, I do actually like the Sailfish Weather app, but as my father says; "if you wanna know what the weather is doing, look out the bloody window!", yes dad, that's fine until you want to plan something, I'm not psychic.

How do I create/collect journal logs please?, what's the procedure?

@Edz Indeed the location Xàbia seems to be buggy. Same result for me on 3.0.9 and Xperia X. Every other location seems to work. Edit: However for me Xàbia shows 29° ;)

Thanks @Spark

Also showing 29°, it's also pretty breezy which is causing the humidity to drop, which is nice.

Check up Foreca's mobi site. They too are missing any kind of weather "picture". 29 degrees, no pic for current weather:

http://foreca.mobi/spot.php?l=102516336

("more info" in the Weather app pull menu will link to this url)

Could it be that they at Foreca got a blank in their master config file for Xàbia, and Sailfish Weather app in lieu of information provided by Foreca defaults to show Sunny 29? Tampere and my home town on the other hand have a nice (legit) sunny image to them on mobi.

It's not us, it's them.

(Denia seems to also miss any picture at Foreca mobi, though)

Javea misses the image and the weather description in words on the minimized cover of the Weather app, too. Looks like Foreca is giving bad input (invalid weather type codes) for Weather app on Xàbia, and that is the cause of the failure.

@jovirkku Am I right that Weather app gets its weather updates from some general purpose server (and service) of Foreca, and not through any Jolla-specific setup offered by Foreca?

As Foreca's own mobi page on Xàbia is also messed up (missing current weather icon), Foreca's weather update configuration on Xàbia's current weather is probably having a typo in it or something, and the update information fetched from Foreca server by Weather app (and others) is unintelligible to the app, resulting in failure that sees Xàbia getting some default Scorchio day and night for the current weather on Weather app (and Foreca mobi missing the icon altogether).
