It is a report. WhatsApp doesn't access to the gallery. It is only me or it happens to everyone? It happens to me since the new Alien Dalvik in SFOS3. Very bad ploy to release the new Alien Dalvik. I haven't said anything before because I thought it will be solved soon, but after some updates and no-one reporting it, I thing it happens only to me. Best regards!

When I click the camera icon in the writing box, the "Gallery" that opens up are the pictures that other people have previously posted to the group. (3.0.3.10/XA2 dual sim)

The Gallery that is opened is the repository of the media received in WhatsApp, not the Gallery in the SailfishOS.

So what I got is the expected behaviour? And you are not getting this expected behaviour and can't access this gallery?

No it definitely is not expected behaviour as this always used to work without a problem. I only have this issue with XA2

I can confirm this issue. My pictures are saved to the SD card and this pictures won't be visible in WhatsApp. Screenshots that are saved to the device memory are visible in Whatsapp.

Android apps are expected to "see" the pictures and videos in Sailfish Gallery. And they do see them if the camera has saved them in the phone storage. The problem (on 3.1.0) is that the media saved to an SD card is not visible to Android apps (although they appear for Sailfish apps in Gallery).

Sometimes restarting Dalvik support helps for me. But overall it is shitty.
