I came across this tethering bug today on my Jolla 1 with Sailfish version 3.0.3.10. I could only verify this with the providers I can access, so I can't tell, if it might be provider related or might be reproducible with another/any provider.

Steps to reproduce:

All steps are executed on the settings menu (top pull), where possible.

  1. Mobile data on (here: Telekom.de), all other connections off
  2. Start tethering and connect another device to the Jolla 1 hotspot
  3. Do things on connected device
  4. Stop tethering, leave mobile data on, any other connection off
  5. Connect to WLAN (here: FON-Hotspot by Telekom Germany, worst-case this access point might be error related, but I can't tell), do not change mobile data setting
  6. Start tethering (via the connected WLAN)

Error: Hotspot falls back to mobile data, WLAN turns itself off (at least according to the setting buttons).

Expectation would be, that the hotspot shares WLAN. Mobile data, WLAN and Hotspot buttons should be all active. After the error occured a reboot was required to successfully do tethering over the exact same WLAN connection.

I haven't found anything similar here at TJC. Maybe someone can reproduce this (with other providers/devices).

This is not a bug. Tethering works only with mobile data.

Maybe someone knows this:

Is there any technical reason for restricting this to mobile data? Or is this a feature in the making (aka adding WLAN support for tethering later)?
