As I read the threads about problems with flashing SFOS on Xperia devices, I got one question: Jolla, why isn't there a tool to flash SFOS? Wasn't there a plan to develop it? I would be a big help for people without a lot of computer espacially Linux knowledge. And even if the flashing process is not really difficult, people are afraid when they read the instructions and refuse to do it. That makes no sense for me.

For me manual worked fine. Just have to read it and follow carefully. And if choosing I would rather have bugs fixed first.

In other words...those who are willing to live with sailfish's faults, workarounds, and bugs(like myself, unfortunately), most probably are willing to flash the software the way it is and already have some basic command line knowledge.

I understand both sides. But one thing is for sure, more users of Sailfish more money for Jolla and more resources to fix the bugs and to develop faster...

you need commandline once for unlocking bootloader. this is valid for all scenario when you want to flash custom firmware, nothing special for Sailfish OS.

it's true, but I am afraid the Jolla team has a long list of higher prio stuff to do, and they can't do everything. Just look how long they are chewing on the XA2 OS and it still is beta stage.

The community program is not the cash cow for Jolla. Making money with it is a low priority. The business plan is regional licensing, like with Rostelekom. This has been stated a couple of times by Jolla, e.g. in this interview (it's a bit lengthy) https://techcentral.co.za/interview-jolla-sailfish-os-ceo-sami-pienimaki/89772/.

My personal belief is that the community progam ("Sailfish X") still exists out of a certain emotional responsibility towards the fellow community, the knowledge pool (beta testing, community generated apps) and to keep the foot in the door in case this direct market becomes important again.

In consequence there is little reason to open the community program to people who are not at least experienced enough to use a flash tool or a command line.
