Where else than the clock app? I think the implementation there is just fine.

the dialer for example, and they ruined the fantastic people app...

I found screenshots of clock and phone app on Telegram. so I deleted my post probably just before your answer.

Actually I prefer these tabs. In the clock app, there's more than enough screen estate for them, no reason to hide these options behind a pully.

I like what i've seen so far (in screenshots). The new tabbed phone app is an implementation of an idea that has been proposed by the community a while ago. The only thing i'd do differently is put the dialler in the middle (and default to that) so you are one swipe away from each option. Also the new lettered scroller has been asked since forever.

I really liked the mosaic in People app, but I gotta admit, the scroller works better. It just feels a lot less sailfish-y, but I'll take it!

I cant's say new design is bad, actually it seems to be good, esp integration with people app which was kinda redundant from the very beginning. Maybe some polish to the visual side, but I like the general idea of one app for all phone activities.

You're still one swipe away, from each option, it loops around.

Imho thats just design error - it could work without tabs. Put History, Contacts and Dialer in one app, but remove those ugly tabs. Random Joe uses gestures and can "swipe" between those three and he will notice the difference! Put it in "Tutorial", case closed.

I was afraid that there are really tabs that i have to click on, as i did read this post. For me its not so bad to swipe between the different views.

Looks like you never used Nokia's N9, predecessor of Jolla company at all. Hello tabs again, not "really? ".

It's crazy, the first couple of years people were complaining day in day out that the UI didn't resemble the N9 enough, now with Sailfish 2 and 3 Jolla has reverted to a more N9-like UI (nearly all changes have been for the best, objectively speaking), and people complain it's "literally Android". As long as they have something to complain about.

nthn ( 2019-07-24 19:40:35 +0300 )edit

At the time i had a windows phone, and i decided to switch to sailfish just because of it's fantastic ui, which was completely tabless and buttonless

I'm still wondering what problems were solved and especially why those were prioritized above the issues that have a fair amount of votes on tjc...

Well, sorry for sailors, but I have to say: this new phone app sucks. Not sure what "studies" was happening, but it seems that it's like "lets throw tabs and shit together in one app yey!". Theres a pulley in Friends with Find and pulley is visible only when you are on top... and, over there on top, just below those cool tabs is "find". Do we need two Finds to find something?

I liked dialer on top of the "history" screen.

Sometimes Im using "the other hand" for the phone - mosaic was, by default, both hands friendly.

I would love chronological history. I called A, then got a call from B, then got a call from A, then called A and then B. It should be: B A «A «B A

and in history it still is just: B A

I dont like new icons in history. Previous icons where self explaining. I call A, no icons! B called me, small arrow. Simple stuff. We dont need tons of emoji to check call history.

Another note: I would love "activity history" - like this one above + messages (mms/sms).

This isnt just about like it or not, it about your own style. And Sailfish just lost it. "Lets go the way everybody is going!"...

Why tabs? Why not use those pretty dots like in Mail? Same thing, but it looks Sailfish.

Piotr ( 2019-07-23 13:58:05 +0300 )edit

@babo PS Try to use Contacts with your left hand. Unusable. Mosaic was, as I said before, usable with right or left hand (not right AND left together).

Piotr ( 2019-07-23 14:28:59 +0300 )edit

I am right handed. But it works pretty much the same with my left hand.

I cant see what makes it unusable.

hein ( 2019-07-24 20:52:53 +0300 )edit

It may depend on the device. On an XA2, the quick letter navigation is probably manageable with either hand. Bump up to the Plus/Ultra though, and it's a stretch, I'm sure.

I personally wouldn't mind if, much like dragging through long lists in Media, the letter bar showed up, but on the bottom instead. Reachable no matter what hand on what device, and persists on the gestures. I wouldn't mind that being the case for the arrows as well, just have it at the bottom instead of being right-biased.
