The new tab design in the clock app is good for me. Though I propose that the recent tab setting is saved or the user is given a possibility to select the default tab when opening the app. Personally in the clock app I mostly use the alarm tab. When opening the app I most often would like too get the alarm tab opened.

I think saving the last used tab gives better user experience than the fixed default setting. Both ways are better than the current way to open the first tab.

EDIT: The new version Torronsuo 3.2.0.12 defaults now alarm. It is good for me. Based on discussion some users might want to be able to set their own default.

For me it's the timer. But some saving of the last tab would be nice...

Interestingly enough, the clock app is meant to open the "Alarms" tab by default according to this comment in /usr/share/jolla-clock/pages/MainPage.qml:

// PathView skips currentIndex assignments. According PathView API docs the
// initial position needs to be set on component completion with positionViewAtIndex()
Component.onCompleted: positionViewAtIndex(1, PathView.Center) // always start in alarms

Funny thing about that: setting currentIndex to 1 fixes the issue (even though the comment claims it won't work).

I have created a patch that fixes the bug. The patch is available through the patchmanager web catalog or here: https://coderus.openrepos.net/pm2/project/clock-default-tab

I don't know. I liked the old interface better, I think. It's not like I set up so many alarms and timer that scrolling through them would become a probkem, really. But when I access the clock, I almost always go there for the timer, as the alarm for my weekly schedule does not change, and I only need to go there when I have to get up early for a trip or something like that. On the other hand, ti start a timer you actually have to manually trigger it, so it makes sense to open the clock on the timer page.
