Bluetooth audio playback muted [XA2] [3.1.0.11]

Hi,
I hope this is not a duplicate of another post but I could not find a thread describing this problem.
When I connect my Xperia XA2 with 3.1.0.11 to my car (VW Passat B8) with bluetooth, calls work fine but audio playback does not.
Around every ten seconds the volume of the car drops to zero. Interestingly, every time before the volume drops to zero the play/pause button on the car's display switches to play (which indicates a paused music) though the music on the phone continues playing. A few seconds after that the volume drops to zero. This happens irrespectively of the used audio app ("media" and "QuasarMX" tried). The volume of the car drops to zero also when there is not music playing at all.
I tried rebooting the phone, disconnecting and pairing again with my car, shutting down all running apps, stopping Android runtime but to no avail.
Anybody else with this behavior or are there any ideas for debugging?
