The title explains pretty much all, considering now 3.1 is stable a fix seems to have been released as per https://github.com/mer-hybris/android_kernel_sony_msm/commit/c85da4de44568d4e3495d9003ab1e5f697405c01 , has anyone tried to flash sailfish on an xa2 with android 9?yeah i know i can downgrade but i don't want to do all the hassle required...

The fact that they should have adressed the thing in the stable release of 3.1 but most likely forgot to update the infos, maybe?

you must downgrade to Android 8 before flashing Sailfish OS, because it will brick your phone if you don't

DO NOT FLASH SAILFISH WHILE ANDROID 9 IS STILL ON YOUR DEVICE

First you need to downgrade to Android 8. Either by using Sony's official Emma tool, or by using the open-source FlashTool.

Only attempt flashing once you have Android 8 (Jolla's official doc asks you to flash SFOS 3.1.0 and not an earlier one)

I have tried this, but it still bricked my device. Any real guides on how to do this? Is it possible to recover from the state the device is in now?

@hanckmann

According to some users in your situation, they managed to un-brick their phone and save the day by using the opensource Flashtool

Maybe for some users it worked. I used the tool to flash to flash various versions of the 50.1 firmware. None managed to unbrick my device. The 5.2 firmwares did not work due to the error that the install script was missing: ERROR - No flash script found. Flash script is mandatory Hence, I tried the to tool but it did not yet help :-(
