Dear fellow sailors,

after my kid finally updated his Aquafish-turned Jolla C to Seitseminen, weird things happened:

  • phone app is not opening
  • neither is AlienDalvik
  • Media app can't find any songs
  • Jolla Store unaccessible, prompts me to enter my account credentials, says something went wrong when I do (on the computer it works)
  • pkcon refresh gets stuck at 0%
  • info says it's now 3.1.0.11

The update was bumpy, progress bar was stuck at 100% for a long time, whereupon impatient offspring pressed the power button.

Now I know it would be a clean thing to just do a factory reset, but it took me not-so-techie guy a while to convince the Aquafish that it is a Jolla C and get the kid a working Playstore and Minecraft on there. A lot of other game progress would be lost as well.

Is there any way to micro-manage this situation? I don't want to lose this so far enthusiastic shipboy to the Android fleet...

I'm thankful for every hint!

You can verify the installed system packages via shell:

  • Enable "Developer Mode" and "Remote connection" in System -> Developer Tools
  • Connect the Phone to your WiFi (if not already done)
  • Open a SSH connection to the Phone on your desktop (depends on the operating system you are using). The Username is "nemo", the IP of the phone is shown in the "Developer tools" as "WLAN IP address". The command looks something like ssh nemo@<IP>
  • The password is shown in "Developers tools" as well, you'll need it again in the next step
  • When connected, enter devel-su and the password again to become root
  • Now, you can run version --dup to (re)download and install broken packages (if any). This may take a moment.

If you can't or don't wont to use a SSH connection from a computer, you can also do this with the "Terminal" app which is installed when you enable "Developer Mode". When using this method, start with the devel-su command. You'll need the password again, so note it down or copy it.

Thank you for your answer!

I tried version --dup, but to not much avail. Early on, an error stated that "nothing provides libpulsecommon-12-2.so needed by pulseaudio-modules-droid-12.2.78-1.12.1.jolla.armv7hl"

After that came only a few warnings that this request will break my system, and the conclusion "upgrade not complete, followed by 9 fruitless retries.

But again thank you for guiding me through the steps.

This indicates that there are some issues with package dependencies and the system wasn't fully upgraded. Are you using third party repositories (like Storeman for OpenRepos)? If so, try to disable them and rerun version --dup to see if this solves the issues.

I'm owning a Aqua Fish myself (modified to be a Jolla C) and just updated it to 3.1.0.11 for testing purposes. The upgrade went fine without any issues and version --dup shows no errors afterwards. Though I have no additionals Apps or anything installed (just upgraded the factory image), there seems to be no general issue with updating the phone to 3.1.0.11.

If the upgrade complains that it can't meet certain dependencies, it sounds like there are either third party repositories enabled or some of the default repositories may not be converted correctly to the official Jolla C ones.

Maybe it is worth to take a look at "Did anyone manage to update an Intex Aqua Fish or Jolla C to Release 3.0.3.8? [answered]".

Mind that Jolla documents upgrading SailfishOS at the command line as a last resort measure to be used when upgrading at the GUI fails, but not to retrieve SailfishOS versions which are not offered at the GUI!
