Dear sailors, Videos in WhatsApp are not playable. Video links (like YouTube) work. The rest of the videos will only be displayed as an image, but will not play. I have already checked all (?) the Settings, but could not find a cause. Can you confirm this bug? Maybe I did something wrong or ignored something. (Xperia Xa2 / Build 3.1.0.11 / WhatsApp 2.19.246 and all before)

Greetings and thanks

Hi, thanks for reporting. There is a problem with video playback in Whatsapp (XA2).
Workaround:
Click the three dots in top right corner, take Share (but do not share) and go back. Now you may be able to play the video.

@jovirkku: Many thanks for this workaroud. It works for me. I can confirm: This behavior is only noticeable on the Xa2.

I also have this bug on my XA2, and it has been there since i started using XA2.

I have the same problem, but it occurs on all videos in the gallery. Before the installation of whatsapp the playback worked, now instead I only hear the audio. I installed llc player and writes cannot play stream of type: <unknown>. The workaround doesn't work for me Thanks for your help </unknown>

@andrea: changed your "answer" to a "comment".
I do not know what is wrong in your phone but if the playback of all videos in the Gallery fails (i.e., you record a video with the camera and then try to play it) then it is not the Whatsapp problem discussed in this post.

A workaround: forwarding with canceling at the last step and going back helps. I wouldn't be surprised, if it was Whatsapp's bug. From within Whatsapp you can file a bug report.

Thank you for this timely response and solution. By the way: This problem does not occur on the Xperia X.

It's definitely not WhatsApp bug. It's been around on XA2 since the beta phase

Thank you for this additional information, because I am not able to find out the cause (WhatsApp or not) myself.

It works on my XA2.

Thank!

I think it is a rights issue. I suppose by forwarding and going back the videao is some how cached so it can be played.....

With OS update 3.3.0, the playback of videos received in Whatsapp messages should work.
