I'm running 3.1.0.11 on Xperia X and in this version or a recent update, the Media player started indexing music files names with special characters like ' or [, and ] to separate albums. It did not do this in earlier versions

In other words, if 4 out of 10 tracks on an album contain one of these characters in the file name, 2 albums will show in the Artist list: one album containing the 4 tracks with special chars, and the other album containing the non-special char tracks.

The characters don't cause issues in the actual tags of the audio files, just when used in the file names.

Very easy to reproduce: just add or an apostrophe to an audio file name and reindex. Go to the Artist menu and notice you'll have two albums, one with just the altered track. Remove the apostrophe, and the it will reindex to one album.

This bug is very aggravating because you have to manually edit multiple file names to remove the characters so they all end up under one album on the device. Hopefully it can be fixed soon. I have not tested MP3 to see if they have the same issue, just FLAC.

I'm using Xperia X 3.1.0.11 also. Names containing ' don't cause any problems to me, for example: 13 - Let's Make the Water Turn Black.ogg. I have only ogg-files. And adding [ to the file name didn't cause any problems either.

I'm using Xperia X 3.1.0.11 too. I can reproduce this behaviour using mp3-files (don't use any other audio formats).

This might be related to this: Music not grouped by album

Pleased to report that this seems fixed with the 3.3.0.16 update. FLAC file names containing apostrophes no longer cause a second instance of the album to be created in the Artist category of music player, only one album exists containing all tracks, which is the expected behavior.

Thanks much to Jolla for the fix, it will save so much time not having to manually remove apostrophe characters from file names whenever I copy music to my phone.
