Whatsapp web and Xperia X, issue with attached files [answered]

It seems that I have a new problem with Whatsapp (via Aliendalvik) on my Xperia X. In case you are not familiar, by visiting https://web.whatsapp.com you can open a web client for Whatsapp. The web client still requires to talk continuously with the Whatsapp app on the phone (I presume also for encryption reasons), so you need your phone to be online to use it.

Since my last update to Whatsapp, the web client can handle chat correctly, but everything that involves attachments (images, videos, attached files, etc.) fails. For instance, if I try click on a picture thumbnail on the web client to view it, the download never starts.

Does anyone have the same problem? Do you have any hints to a probable cause or to a workaround? I realize this is going to be difficult to debut because it also involves the (closed-source) Whatsapp web client.

On my Xperia X, Whatsapp Web works well with WA version 2.19.258. What version are you using?

Just updated Whatsapp to 2.19.274, and everything still seems to work.

Found the solution: this problem turned out to be caused by an overzealous tracker blocker (Privacy Badger) on the browser side. So Sailfish is not to blame here! Leaving this answer for the benefit of other users with the same issue.
