Fetch the update

Pre-requisites

  • You need a working Jolla account configured on your device in order to receive update notifications. If you are unable to successfully configure the account, please visit account.jolla.com and try to reset your password.
  • It is recommended to have the charger connected before attempting to upgrade the device.

Update the software

If your Jolla is connected to WLAN network, an OS update notification should pop up shortly. If you just can't wait, you can manually trigger an OS update check as follows:

  • Open Settings app
  • Go to System Settings -> About Product
  • Pull down the pulley menu and select 'Check for update'
  • Once an OS update notification is received, tap on it and follow the instructions.

Do not reboot the device while the OS update installation is in progress. The process takes up to 10 minutes. During the update, the device screen might blank out. You may awaken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress. When the upgrade has completed successfully, you will see the LED light up red before the device restarts.

Let the phone proceed to restart by itself, do NOT touch the power key.

Note: If your device currently has a software version lower than 1.0.2.5 you will first be offered to upgrade to 1.0.2.5 before this update can be installed

I would like to know if Jolla will make changes to AUX port as it doesn't seem to work with every device. For example l have tested 2 different Jolla devices in my car with 3 different 3.5mm - 3.5mm aux cables none of them worked properly it gave really low volume music and stable background noise when trying to playback music. This didnt happen on N9, laptop's or even with a "made-in-china beercan holder" (tablet device) only on Jolla devices.

l searched from google and found out that Jolla has different AUX pin setup than N9 for example. nevertheless N9 recognizes different cable types, where aux and ground wires are swapped inthe cable.

So I'm wondering if this is a software problem or do l need to make a homemade cable for it.

It might be good thing to let people know that their device's are working properly and not to send them to repairing for nothing, also not to make a line in repair shop and safe everybody the extra effort and cost's.

Sailfish is Superb OS so far, thank you for all your work and support!

And no LTE support?

Jolla uses 4 pole 3.5mm connector, N9 also has 4 pole connector but it has microphone and ground pole in reverse order compared to Jolla. So N9 cables and headphones wont work. Jolla's 4-pole order is same as in common droid and fruit products.

Considering this line:

Do not reboot the device while the OS update installation is in progress.

What would be recommended if phone stopped updating around... ~30% and restarted device by itself?

Reset the device, or just "leave" it since it seems that the second try passed without any problems?

My download hangs at the beginning and doesn't move. It stops after a while and then hangs again when I try again. :(

You can google 4-pole to 3-pole AUX cables, they are widely available for example in ebay.

no LTE enabled by default yet.

A glitch at upgrading first try but went well on the second one.

It made me a bit anxious at first -and it should not- but no problem. Everything seems ok.

I was hopping for more keyboard layouts but i can wait until the next update. :)

ApB ( 2014-01-31 20:05:05 +0300 )edit

It failed for me too. It's even a freshly reseted Jolla. It crashed/turned off in the beginning of the update (the black screen where you see the minimalist Sailfish logo and white progress bar. Now I have to redownload the update and try again. Fingers crossed. edit: it works just fine now.

i had the same issue =( but it worked well after about 10 tries and couple restarts... don't know what was the issue... maybe it's just Jolla's server can't handle many simulteneous downloads...

virgi26 ( 2014-01-31 20:21:24 +0300 )edit

Installed the 1.0.3.8 update (upgrading from 1.0.2.5), rebooted, and then a short while later I received a notification informing me that a new system update (1.0.3.8) is available... tapping the notification took me to the System Update screen where I'm told that I'm up to date.

Looks like this question now applies to this 1.0.3.8 release too.

Milhouse ( 2014-01-31 20:21:35 +0300 )edit

Thank's for fast responding! I'm still confused about the pole order as both my android tablet device and N9 work without trouble with every cable l have tested. If the Device have different pin order compared to "audio system" does N9 and/or android change the order automatically as it's detected?

Why on earth did you allow libsailfishapp to change the localstorage path and now ALL store apps settings are gone and have to be set from scratch???? That includes bookmarks, login credentials, etc. At least a way to move those from old dir to new? A one note about it wouldn't hurt!

Community to the rescue here.

--removed--

Nokius ( 2014-01-31 20:26:22 +0300 )edit

Nope atleast N9 does not change order automaticly, so droid headsets don't work with N9. Some 3-pole cables do work, but that is just coinsidence and depends on pole lenghts. So it kinda depends if you headset has microphone or not, and then if poles do match.

Doesn't appear to have stabilised the various WLAN issues. Guess that's for a future update.

Anyone having any issues with it? I updated it and it was working properly. All of a sudden I cannot see and do anything. Everything is being displayed like in landscape mode but incomplete, with the apps very very grouped together (no android apps detected). I cannot find the settings app. All I could do is launch the terminal. I observed that right before it happened, all my android apps disappeared, and the rearrangement of the original apps was set to default. Than everything turned dark. After restart i get a loading bar (the circle one) and the same behavior repeats itself. I tried pulling the battery out, nothing. Any solutions?

andreibechet ( 2014-01-31 20:31:07 +0300 )edit

For example I got a small 'nokia pole reversing cable' with my AKG headset, that reverses the pole order, that way I could use Android headsets in N9 and vice versa with that same cable I can use N9 headsets on Jolla.

rainisto ( 2014-01-31 20:31:08 +0300 )edit

Does your Settings -> About say you're on 1.0.3.8, or on 1.0.2.5? It could have been an incomplete update due to some package conflicts (3rd party repositories involved, e.g.).

Really a bad surprise. How could that slip through QA?

pycage ( 2014-01-31 20:35:55 +0300 )edit

That's what l was looking for, so it's a hardware thing. Time to go shopping for a fitting cable. Thank you very much!

So that was it then! Come on this is unaccpetable!

rooster13 ( 2014-01-31 20:44:42 +0300 )edit

@pycage: "About product" says "1.0.3.8 (Naamankajarvi)". Clicking on the system update notification takes me to the System Update screen which then says "Up to date" so I'm definitely on 1.0.3.8. It's the same problem as we had with 1.0.2.5, but now we also have it with 1.0.3.8...

Milhouse ( 2014-01-31 20:48:53 +0300 )edit

Bluetooth support still sucks. My Nokia BH-504 still not working.

I am tired of trying now, but apparently community to the rescue.. AGAIN! Can I restore lost settings after Update 1.0.3.8?

gsalone ( 2014-01-31 20:51:02 +0300 )edit

Hi, THANKS for the UPDATE!!

It see to me that there is a bugs in the New Version.

1) If an App open or reopened the Wifi icon shows a !. but there is no problem at all. 2) Landscapemode in Gallery Ambience

Nokius ( 2014-01-31 20:53:37 +0300 )edit

This is my eight try or something. The progress bar stops just before the first dot, and very seldom (this time and the first time) stops just before the third dot. What is happening? Is there any way to do this through terminal (developer mode is active)? UPDATE: Eight retry was the charm!

  • SMS support in Android runtime environment ..

Hmm .. I strictly wanted (must-have) method to absolutely remove access Android apps to Jolla phone enviroment. I need only two Android apps - Public traffic and Internet banking. Maybe few games. No one need access to my Contacts, Messages, Diary and etc.

I need method to block all kind of this access for Android apps.

Thanks.
