Pre-requisites
- You need a working Jolla account configured on your device in order to receive update notifications. If you are unable to successfully configure the account, please visit account.jolla.com and try to reset your password.
- It is recommended to have the charger connected before attempting to upgrade the device.
Update the software
If your Jolla is connected to WLAN network, an OS update notification should pop up shortly. If you just can't wait, you can manually trigger an OS update check as follows:
- Open Settings app
- Go to System Settings -> About Product
- Pull down the pulley menu and select 'Check for update'
- Once an OS update notification is received, tap on it and follow the instructions.
Do not reboot the device while the OS update installation is in progress. The process takes up to 10 minutes. During the update, the device screen might blank out. You may awaken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress. When the upgrade has completed successfully, you will see the LED light up red before the device restarts.
Let the phone proceed to restart by itself, do NOT touch the power key.
Note: If your device currently has a software version lower than 1.0.2.5 you will first be offered to upgrade to 1.0.2.5 before this update can be installed

Tanghus ( 2014-01-31 19:04:48 +0200 )editDoes this mean that fastboot is back?
bencord0 ( 2014-01-31 19:09:02 +0200 )editThanks for the updates, glad you fixed the TOH battery issue so quickly!
hsonnergard ( 2014-01-31 19:13:29 +0200 )editStill no LTE... So sad...
Wickedsten ( 2014-01-31 19:15:54 +0200 )editcan't seem to turn off Bluetooth after upgrade. Haven't yet tried rebooting.
mholo65 ( 2014-01-31 19:16:02 +0200 )editYes, finally the waiting has ended :) Thank you Jolla and keep up the good work! We can do it together!
TimTTK ( 2014-01-31 19:16:08 +0200 )editThis is a huge one, phone is updating. Thanks Jolla :-)
arnbak ( 2014-01-31 19:25:23 +0200 )editGreat Job! :) Just updated it without problems. But still no WPA2 Enterprise support, facebook feeds and SDcard fix? :(
Alex ( 2014-01-31 19:25:36 +0200 )editThanks ! But : no LTE and no CalDav enhancement ???
TheBootroo ( 2014-01-31 19:27:10 +0200 )editSo still no proper carddav and caldav support? Very disappointing...
Kollin ( 2014-01-31 19:30:20 +0200 )editThe update seems to purge apps configurations (e.g. Webcat and Tidings).
pycage ( 2014-01-31 19:35:51 +0200 )editThank you Jolla and all Sailors, right on schedule ;) Respect.
foss4ever ( 2014-01-31 19:36:12 +0200 )editI would like to know if Jolla will make changes to AUX port as it doesn't seem to work with every device. For example l have tested 2 different Jolla devices in my car with 3 different 3.5mm - 3.5mm aux cables none of them worked properly it gave really low volume music and stable background noise when trying to playback music. This didnt happen on N9, laptop's or even with a "made-in-china beercan holder" (tablet device) only on Jolla devices.
l searched from google and found out that Jolla has different AUX pin setup than N9 for example. nevertheless N9 recognizes different cable types, where aux and ground wires are swapped inthe cable.
So I'm wondering if this is a software problem or do l need to make a homemade cable for it.
It might be good thing to let people know that their device's are working properly and not to send them to repairing for nothing, also not to make a line in repair shop and safe everybody the extra effort and cost's.
Sailfish is Superb OS so far, thank you for all your work and support!
FOMBE ( 2014-01-31 19:41:33 +0200 )editThank you!
jzrz ( 2014-01-31 19:41:57 +0200 )editNo MMS yet :(
Salde ( 2014-01-31 19:43:33 +0200 )editAnd no LTE support?
TellienInTouch ( 2014-01-31 19:45:34 +0200 )editJolla uses 4 pole 3.5mm connector, N9 also has 4 pole connector but it has microphone and ground pole in reverse order compared to Jolla. So N9 cables and headphones wont work. Jolla's 4-pole order is same as in common droid and fruit products.
rainisto ( 2014-01-31 19:55:35 +0200 )editConsidering this line:
Do not reboot the device while the OS update installation is in progress.
What would be recommended if phone stopped updating around... ~30% and restarted device by itself?
Reset the device, or just "leave" it since it seems that the second try passed without any problems?
ranko_6 ( 2014-01-31 19:56:40 +0200 )editMy download hangs at the beginning and doesn't move. It stops after a while and then hangs again when I try again. :(
Toxip ( 2014-01-31 19:59:58 +0200 )editYou can google 4-pole to 3-pole AUX cables, they are widely available for example in ebay.
rainisto ( 2014-01-31 20:00:51 +0200 )editno LTE enabled by default yet.
Salde ( 2014-01-31 20:01:02 +0200 )editA glitch at upgrading first try but went well on the second one.
It made me a bit anxious at first -and it should not- but no problem. Everything seems ok.
I was hopping for more keyboard layouts but i can wait until the next update. :)
ApB ( 2014-01-31 20:05:05 +0200 )editIt failed for me too. It's even a freshly reseted Jolla. It crashed/turned off in the beginning of the update (the black screen where you see the minimalist Sailfish logo and white progress bar. Now I have to redownload the update and try again. Fingers crossed. edit: it works just fine now.
fc ( 2014-01-31 20:12:28 +0200 )editSo much to do, so little time. You made it again, thank you!
janick ( 2014-01-31 20:15:18 +0200 )editThanks for all your great work, you hard-working Sailors, loving this phone more and more each day!
FishesWillLaugh ( 2014-01-31 20:15:22 +0200 )editi had the same issue =( but it worked well after about 10 tries and couple restarts... don't know what was the issue... maybe it's just Jolla's server can't handle many simulteneous downloads...
virgi26 ( 2014-01-31 20:21:24 +0200 )editInstalled the 1.0.3.8 update (upgrading from 1.0.2.5), rebooted, and then a short while later I received a notification informing me that a new system update (1.0.3.8) is available... tapping the notification took me to the System Update screen where I'm told that I'm up to date.
Milhouse ( 2014-01-31 20:21:35 +0200 )editLooks like this question now applies to this 1.0.3.8 release too.
Thank's for fast responding! I'm still confused about the pole order as both my android tablet device and N9 work without trouble with every cable l have tested. If the Device have different pin order compared to "audio system" does N9 and/or android change the order automatically as it's detected?
FOMBE ( 2014-01-31 20:22:05 +0200 )editWhy on earth did you allow libsailfishapp to change the localstorage path and now ALL store apps settings are gone and have to be set from scratch???? That includes bookmarks, login credentials, etc. At least a way to move those from old dir to new? A one note about it wouldn't hurt!
Community to the rescue here.
gsalone ( 2014-01-31 20:25:45 +0200 )edit--removed--
Nokius ( 2014-01-31 20:26:22 +0200 )editNope atleast N9 does not change order automaticly, so droid headsets don't work with N9. Some 3-pole cables do work, but that is just coinsidence and depends on pole lenghts. So it kinda depends if you headset has microphone or not, and then if poles do match.
rainisto ( 2014-01-31 20:27:36 +0200 )editDoesn't appear to have stabilised the various WLAN issues. Guess that's for a future update.
strongm ( 2014-01-31 20:28:08 +0200 )editAnyone having any issues with it? I updated it and it was working properly. All of a sudden I cannot see and do anything. Everything is being displayed like in landscape mode but incomplete, with the apps very very grouped together (no android apps detected). I cannot find the settings app. All I could do is launch the terminal. I observed that right before it happened, all my android apps disappeared, and the rearrangement of the original apps was set to default. Than everything turned dark. After restart i get a loading bar (the circle one) and the same behavior repeats itself. I tried pulling the battery out, nothing. Any solutions?
andreibechet ( 2014-01-31 20:31:07 +0200 )editFor example I got a small 'nokia pole reversing cable' with my AKG headset, that reverses the pole order, that way I could use Android headsets in N9 and vice versa with that same cable I can use N9 headsets on Jolla.
rainisto ( 2014-01-31 20:31:08 +0200 )editDoes your Settings -> About say you're on 1.0.3.8, or on 1.0.2.5? It could have been an incomplete update due to some package conflicts (3rd party repositories involved, e.g.).
pycage ( 2014-01-31 20:32:43 +0200 )editReally a bad surprise. How could that slip through QA?
pycage ( 2014-01-31 20:35:55 +0200 )editThat's what l was looking for, so it's a hardware thing. Time to go shopping for a fitting cable. Thank you very much!
FOMBE ( 2014-01-31 20:38:25 +0200 )editSo that was it then! Come on this is unaccpetable!
rooster13 ( 2014-01-31 20:44:42 +0200 )edit@pycage: "About product" says "1.0.3.8 (Naamankajarvi)". Clicking on the system update notification takes me to the System Update screen which then says "Up to date" so I'm definitely on 1.0.3.8. It's the same problem as we had with 1.0.2.5, but now we also have it with 1.0.3.8...
Milhouse ( 2014-01-31 20:48:53 +0200 )editBluetooth support still sucks. My Nokia BH-504 still not working.
rooster13 ( 2014-01-31 20:48:59 +0200 )editI am tired of trying now, but apparently community to the rescue.. AGAIN! Can I restore lost settings after Update 1.0.3.8?
gsalone ( 2014-01-31 20:51:02 +0200 )editHi, THANKS for the UPDATE!!
It see to me that there is a bugs in the New Version.
1) If an App open or reopened the Wifi icon shows a !. but there is no problem at all. 2) Landscapemode in Gallery Ambience
Nokius ( 2014-01-31 20:53:37 +0200 )editThis is my eight try or something. The progress bar stops just before the first dot, and very seldom (this time and the first time) stops just before the third dot. What is happening? Is there any way to do this through terminal (developer mode is active)? UPDATE: Eight retry was the charm!
GuSec ( 2014-01-31 20:58:48 +0200 )editI love to see you making a deadline again with limited resources, thanks!
BonoNL ( 2014-01-31 21:09:34 +0200 )editHave you made a question of this here at together?
BonoNL ( 2014-01-31 21:16:53 +0200 )editBT should work out of the box, no questions asked :)
rooster13 ( 2014-01-31 21:21:47 +0200 )editStill it needs reporting, Jolla can't fix thing they're not aware of. Make a new question for it.
abc123 ( 2014-01-31 21:25:57 +0200 )editGreat Work!!! I hope the next update contains configurations for LTE!!
Schokopopo ( 2014-01-31 21:28:44 +0200 )editHmm .. I strictly wanted (must-have) method to absolutely remove access Android apps to Jolla phone enviroment. I need only two Android apps - Public traffic and Internet banking. Maybe few games. No one need access to my Contacts, Messages, Diary and etc.
I need method to block all kind of this access for Android apps.
Thanks.
Kaacz ( 2014-01-31 21:41:23 +0200 )editDisable quick call doesn't work for me, if I have it disabled and go to the call history, selecting a contact still starts the call immediately. Is anyone else having this same bug?
goldenm ( 2014-01-31 21:51:09 +0200 )editAndroid apps are not able to read your SMS. As for sending, if an Android application tries to send an SMS it will open the native messages application where you can review the SMS, and decide to discard it or send.
Aard ( 2014-01-31 21:52:24 +0200 )edit@strongm Well, after update configuring of WLAN connection to invisible WLAN finally works. Before update this always stuck and I had to first change WLAN to visible.
However, otherwise WLAN has still issues as you said. I had to re-create my home WLAN configuration before and after the update, as for some reason it could not connect to it anymore. Even reboot didn't help.
JiiHoo ( 2014-01-31 21:52:42 +0200 )editOk I gave up and reported it, but still IMO this is basic stuff and should work out of the box. Being a beta phone or not.
rooster13 ( 2014-01-31 21:53:41 +0200 )editWorks fine for me.
JiiHoo ( 2014-01-31 21:55:17 +0200 )editNice job. My update needed a second trial, but then it just worked nice in about 7min (staring at updating devices always creates time gliches).
masmrlar ( 2014-01-31 21:56:47 +0200 )editAlso fixed: compass in android apps. Before that version I had no compass support in ingress.
masmrlar ( 2014-01-31 22:04:08 +0200 )editThe same thing here. This happened after successful update when I powered phone off and then back on. Basically I'm not able to select anything. Can't even go to settings to do factory reset. Ideas are welcome.
pehtoori ( 2014-01-31 22:09:53 +0200 )editWhat is even more worrying, there are now abandoned settings/cookies/bookmarks/usernames/passwords over which people have no control, unless they go to the terminal. You cannot delete such private data without knowing the way around the command line (or an advanced file manager). It will just stay there...
nodevel ( 2014-01-31 22:11:37 +0200 )editThis sounds quite serious. I have installed the new update, but have not rebooted yet. Should I do a factory reset while I'm still able to do so? Jolla should definitely comment on this.
nodevel ( 2014-01-31 22:20:10 +0200 )editafter one retry update worked for me
ortylp ( 2014-01-31 22:20:35 +0200 )editToo bad the weekend is coming ... Luckily I still have my older phone to go around.
andreibechet ( 2014-01-31 22:25:36 +0200 )editAmazing update! Thank you! I hope You add improvements to the next such as: landscape mode in Messages app (writing a new message), sending files in File browser via Bluetooth and selecting a multiple files, using bank certificates in the Web browser ... Keep up the great work
Blown_ouT ( 2014-01-31 22:55:48 +0200 )editthanks for the update
hcarrega ( 2014-01-31 23:23:44 +0200 )editSo it looks like email syncing problem is not fixed yet :(
https://together.jolla.com/question/500/bug-e-mail-syncronisation-does-not-work-as-configured/
ortylp ( 2014-01-31 23:33:55 +0200 )edit
