  • device: Sony XPeria XA2 Dual SIM h4413
  • Phone OS: Android 8.0.0
  • Computer OS: Manjaro (XFCE)

My device is unlockable according to Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status.

But I can't unlock it somehow. I've used USB3, USB2 and even a USB2 port from a computer from 2009.

[me@Mycomputer Sailfish_OS-Jolla-3.2.0.12-h4413-0.0.7.10]$ fastboot oem unlock 0x817DAA(redacted)
                                                   FAILED (remote: 'Command not allowed')
fastboot: error: Command failed

[edit] I've tried it on Windows 10 laptop as well. Same error. [/edit]

Just a shot in the dark: Did you follow all steps described in chapter 4? https://jolla.com/sailfishx-linux-instructions-xa2/ Especially 4.1 and 4.2?

Try from a mac OS notebook (not with Catalina which broke the Fastboot).

Remember this before

brew tap caskroom/cask brew cask install android-platform-tools
check with this to see the answer (a device code)
fastboot devices
Finally use this
sudo fastboot oem unlock 0x...

I got mixed up with the two instructions.

https://jolla.com/sailfishx-linux-instructions-xa2/
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/how-to-unlock-bootloader/

The latter are general instructions for bootloading while the former is for sailfish, so I should stayed at the sailfish instructions, which at some point says:

Enable “OEM unlocking” and “USB debugging” from “Settings > System > Developer options” menu.

Still, it's quite odd that the former is missing out on the "OEM unlocking" part.
