Is the 10 plus good enough to ditch your Xperia X?

I've had the n808, N9, Jolla, JollaC, lumia 1020, Xperia x and now xperia 10 plus. I've rebelled against google and apple so once I got to smartphones I've had Symbian^3, Meego, Windows and Sailfish.

Xperia x has been with me for a couple of years now, and even if my main driver is a feature phone I try to have a couple of sailfish devices just to support the existence of alternatives. So after a few hours with the 10p how does it fare against the xperia x?

Pros: 1) Usb C 2) 21:9 screen (I love it) 3) 2 sim and separate SD slot 4) 3.5mm jack 5) Slightly better android support

Cons: 1) Screen colours are not as vivid, and crisp as xperia x, no triluminous display here and it shows! 10p is horrible by comparison 2) Sailfish fails to use the aspect ratio so camera and other apps have huge black boxes on the screen 3) Resolution seems stretched so icons do not look as crisp or clean this added to pt 1 makes for a horrid display in comparison to xperia x 4) No front facing speakers 5) No stereo speakers 6) Dual camera is wasted, a whole lens is not used 7) Abysmal battery life UPDATE

So there you have it that is my initial impression of 10p vs X. Unless you want a bigger screen and like the aspect and do not care of losing the triluminous display do not buy the 10p.

Shouldn't you change the title to "Would you want an xperia 10 plus?", as in if you had to replace your phone? I'm guessing you're not giving one away ;)

Anyhow, no I wouldn't. I don't like the form factor. 21:9 looks weird for me. When shooting photos I actually mostly use 4:3. I would prefer the phablet form factor as I mostly use the device for reading (an my eyes are old and tired).

And the XA2 also has USB-C.

Good catch, the thing about trying to communicate in an intermediate language. I'll see if I can change the post's title. 21:9 is a very personal thing I love it, but no app actually uses that real estate,. you get black bars! I tried the phone a bit before flashing it and sony had 21:9 pics... looked amazing on my 21:9 monitor... but I now tend to think that outside of the LG BL20 which was 21:9 perfection back in 2011, the 10p is not cutting it. This is just a small tablet to have at home, not a phone, yes most people would use and appreciate 16:9 at most.

Thank you for your review and thoughts! I just got this phone today and while I like the form factor, I can see how that could be a problem for some. I'm excited to get to know more of the ins and outs of the device over time.

Not sure how the first pont affects my life so I can't comment. After more than a month using it, #2 holds too true... #3 stopped happening to me once I stopped installing defender. #4 works fine for me #5 yes, it destroys your phone! I did not know about this so after every SFOS installation I installed defender and I got the infinite reboot.

On the good side the camera has a better zoom. :)

Aurora store x.15 has problems with logging in on SFOS, but x.13 is just fine. Battery life is crap, not much better than Jolla 1. Does Defender really mess the phone up? I was just about to install it.

I just easily resized the rootfs on my X10 sfos with standard lvm tools(only had to install cryptoutils with pkcon). But beyond that I have a larger rootfs, a bit extra space if needed to adjust it some more and that's that.(using this: https://together.jolla.com/question/200683/sailfishx-gemini-the-rootfs-is-too-small/?answer=200928#post-id-200928 )

Personally battery life seems to run for 2 days for me with my normal load. Probably a bit longer.

Likely on travel days when I'd use it more it would probably last the day if that.

Personally I'm happy with the upgrade from the Jolla 1 - but I'll still get a better device if it comes out. But for the next few years I'll stick with the X10.

LUKS containers can be resized, so it should still be possible to use the old way of enlarging the rootfs to a sane size, while resizing the LUKS container as well.

But even better would be if Jolla finally sets a more reasonably size out of the box - the ultra small rootfs never made any sense and makes no sense at all with ~64 GB on device storage on the Xperia 10.
