Please make gesture-rotation an optional feature (settings)!

  • Gallery:

    • Ambience page is rotating into landscape with resizing instead of adapting display-raster
    • Ambience edit is not rotating, so now you have a not rotating gallery main page - rotating ambience page - not rotating ambience editor
    • Rotation is locked to 90 degrees, leftside/bottom of device cannot be top, applies to gestures for pictures.
  • Gestures: swipe-gestures rotate only if app-page rotates (gallery does close from landscape top only when UI is rotated too)

  • Notification-page: available as portrait and landscape but does not rotate with the device

    • presence does not rotate
  • App-Start: at start an app capable of landscape mode does not refresh the current rotation mode or does not get the correct current mode

TBC

personal note: One may think it is a good idea to have the gestures rotate when the page rotates or even with phone orientation but muscle memory does not work with that as good as it does with "you have a phone in your hand - strike this way to get that behaviour"

Note from a friend using an iPhone currently but looking for an alternative:

the device is to big and the rotating gestures are an absolute no-Go, that is just as stupid as androids button-bar moving around when turning the device - system buttons or here gestures need to stick to one direction

Gestures bonded with "orientation" is big problem. On N9 this is bonded with sensor, but too much times i don't know current orientation and gets close app not background run. Bond with GUI orientation is strict better in visual (and for developers), but not for my brain theory: top-down=close. :)

My phone was resting flat on a table. As I opened the Photos folder in the Gallery it was on landscape! I slightly tilted the phone upwards and it went to normal orientation. I can't reproduce it but it is a bug.

On my phone, landscape in the Gallery app works here and there. First view (category list), portrait only. Photos, portrait only (individual photos, portrait & landscape). Facebook, portrait & landscape. Ambiences, portrait & landscape.

Is this how it's supposed to work, or do I have some issue here?

When I use something in landscape mode and have a look at my tweets they open also in landscape mode. But they do not change back if I turn the phone to portrait mode.

My brain struggles with the gesture rotation as well. Hopefully this feature becomes selectable.

Looks like it is done: OS version 1.0.4.1, Settings -> Display -> Orientation ("If you want to disable orientation switching temporarily, select the Dynamic option and keep your finger on the screen while turning the device")

I honestly hope that this gets some more thought in the future, the annoying part is that the gestures rotate... so you have to look on your phone, always. We will see how that works in the update... will update the threads accordingly

I would say the annoying thing is that not all gestures rotate. I just lost 28€ because I accidentally closed the Pokerstars Android app instead of minimizing it to take a quick look at IRC while waiting for other players to complete their actions. Obviously, I had the phone in landscape mode.

Lucky for me the sum wasn't bigger than that but IMO it's a perfect example of how inconsistent behavior can cause real damages.

Please fix this. Pretty please.

PS. What annoys me most in this particular case is that I was holding a winning hand but my hand was automatically folded after a raise because I didn't reconnect fast enough. Grr.
