I bought a Samsung phone and got AKG headphones with a microphone and if I connect the AKG headphones to my older Sony Xperia XA2 and answer a call people can't hear me. It's like the microphone gets muted. Listening to music and everything else works just fine.

If I am not mistaken Sony smartphones are using CTIA headphone jacks and Samsung uses OMTP headphones jacks.
So the headphones are hardware incompatible with your device and you have to use an adapter.
So how come these Samsung headphones work in a Sony Xperia 10 then?

I tried using standard Sony headphones with a mic and it works just fine then. I tried the Samsung headphones with a mic on my friends Sony Xperia 10 and the mic works just fine there. The only difference between my phone and his is that he's still using Android on it.

These are wireless? Have you tried other headphones if you can reproduce this issue on them too? I've got wireless bluetooth earphones and they've been working quite fine with built on mic too on XA2 dual sim.
Also if the mic is not working does your phone mic work then?
