Signal does not show contacts

I installed the Signal Android App on my Xperia X with Sailfish 3. I read one needs to activate SMS option, but that only gives me an "Unsupported action" error. I can receive messages, but I only see phone numbers, no names.

Any advice on how to get Signal working on Sailfish 3.2?

@sawyer_tom

Head to Settings/Android App Support and check that Allow Android apps to access your contacts is selected.

I'm afraid that some Android apps often display "Unsupported action" on Sailfish.

That was already checked, still doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot for this question! I just logged in to this board to ask a similar question... At least three people from German Sailfish community are faced with the same problem... Mentioned Android apps contact access is enabled - the issue persists... We assume that there is some problem with access of Signal to the address book? Signal version of us: 4.52.4

Addition: Registering Signal account is possible when ignoring possible errors and receiving activation code. However, like mentioned above, I can not see the corresponding names of each phone number (sent message ones as well as received message ones) while also the Signal contact list remains empty.

I just installed Signal (version 4.64.7) and everything else seems to work except access to contacts. So this issue is still not solved.

With Signal version 4.53.7 I am now able to see all (system/CardDAV) contacts in Signal itself using Xperia XA2 and Sailfish OS 3.2.1.20.

EDIT: Apparently, this does not work for all users.

On my Xperia X contact names are not shown in Signal 4.53.7. Which device do you use?

Ok, XA2. So it's no surprise it works better than on the X. Thanks for adding the info.

Signal version 4.55.8 does not show contacts on XA2.

The behavior is pretty strange. In the interface for new chats, the contacts are shown, but in two concatenated lists, so A-Z and then A-Z again, but different contacts. For the existing chats, not the number is shown for a part of them instead of contact names. If it is relevant, I use CardDAV syncing.

I got contacts to Signal once. I don't know how. I cleaned data and re-registered and now I'm unable to get contacts back to Signal. Signal version 4.57.2 and XA2 3.2.1.20. In addition Signal crashes sometimes when registering and ignoring warnings before code verification view.

Anything new about this topic? I have the same problem with Sailfish 3.3.0.16 on an XA2 and Signal 4.64.5. The permission to access the contacts is given in the Android-App settings from Signal itself. It seems that the above mentioned point in the Android-App Support settings doesn't exist anymore (at least it is not there).

No news, the only change I saw recently, at least the individual nicks configured by other Signal users in their clients are now visible, which helps a lotm compared to just being able to see phone numbers. Apart from that, no news I am aware of.
