I think the worst part of Jolla phone is keyboard, it's not fast like Android one (I have a Nexus 5 too), I think everyone can agree, at least we should have the chance to use a 3rd party one (from Play Store in the beginning) but system do not support this action. Sorry for my bad english.

I have to disagree. The Android keyboard is not better but the Swype keyboard is.

I mean latest Android keyboard, it is swipe like too, predictions and auto correction is quite perfect (Swiftkey is even better), anyway, the Jolla one isn't so good, errors are easy to do. IMO.

Swipe is good as long as you use a language that it works with and even there it's not the best option in many cases. So it should be just an option. I want a normal keyboard that allows me to type what I want and not what it thinks I want.

I have to agree that the Swype keyboard is not suitable in SOME cases like for example in the terminal or browser address bar, but 90% of the time I used text input on the N9 I used Swype to do it. I still think the Android default keyboard is not better than the Jolla's.

I use Sailfish and Andoird apps on my Jolla. I do much less type errors on the Android keyboard. I didn't discover why, but there must be a way to improve the Sailfish keyboard

i'd love a half-qwerty keyboard like touchpal on android. it's not about swiping but about the larger keys you have then. i use this for years and to me typing speed and accurrency are unmatched.

I would like half-qwerty too. I wanted one long ago but the nokia e55 was never sold in Sweden.

...or maybe even something like the TextBlade?

I like the SailfishOS default keyboard and I have used a lot many different touch android keyboards. The split keyboard with the suggestions in between is slick. I just dont understand why nobody thought about it before. I think swipe would be interesting but just improving suggestion accuracy would be fine enough for me.

Would it be possible to change the placement of the keytop character?. I do must of my typing with my right hand and it would be nice if the characters could be placed top-left instead of center-center. ...as an example...

Well, guys, when I wrote the first comment about keyboard was time ago, after some updates KB was better in some things, now it's not bad, I miss some features present in latest advanced keyboards, but the real problem now is the low speed you can write, seems a touch problem, I think, but it's easy to make mistakes, reactivity is low. I don't know if can be an hw problem.

Personally, I was never as efficient when typing on a touchscreen as I was with a classic T9 keyboard like the one on old featurephones, and I'd love something like that in the vertical layout on Sailfish. I don't think there's any prior art (yet) for implementing a custom keyboard layout/behaviour yet, is there?

I remember texting SMS with T9 keyboard while watching football games - without (or barely) taking my eyes of the game ;-) Good times!

Hah, or texting from your pocket :) Probably impossible without physical keys, but the speed and precision would still be there, even on a touchscreen

I have to disagree too. For me it's one of the best Keyboards. I'm using Swiftkey on a Android Device, the Android Keyboard sometimes. But i think the best i've ever used is the Symbian Belle FP2 Keyboard on the Nokia 808. It's the same layout but with some longtap actions and arrows.

And yes, I think the Jolla Keyboard is a bit slow, too :)
